ABOUT BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" follows the exploits of hilarious Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his stoically ever-professional captain, Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), along with their diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD's 99th Precinct. In this final season of the series, Jake and the squad must try to balance their personal lives and their professional lives over the course of a very difficult year.
Rounding out the ensemble is Sgt. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumera), who has a passion for organization and a weakness for dork dancing; Lt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), a mountain of a man whose most powerful muscle is his sweetheart; Jake's best friend and human puppy dog, Det. Part of it was Andy and part of it was the writing. It's a comedy with Jake being constantly over the top and juvenile. But when ever he says or does something regarding his love for her, he speaks slow and with professional seriousness.

I don’t know. I think you can recognize it as an unrealistic tv show depiction, while also taking valuable pieces from it that are certainly accessible. They do a great job modeling loving communication and compromise, and picking your battles. No, Jake and Amy don’t exist in real life, but I think some of the best pieces of their relationship are realistic to hope for and work on.

I don't want to nitpick, but I think you mean 'fictional' (invented) instead of 'fake' (false). Because it is certainly invented but it certainly isn't false. There are probably real world examples out there and that's what makes it so compelling because we imagine that it is possible even if it is unlikely. While not the same, I met my wife at university and we had a lot of fun together 'on the job' (studying) and we are still together 12 years later so it's definitely possible to get close.

More like coming from a traditional family, it’s assume by everyone including her that they were going to have kids. Her family is Cuban, discussing children is more of western thing. I have never heard any Chinese couple having discussion of whether to have kids. Everyone just expect you to have one. There are parents that doesn’t allow a couple to get marriage papers until the wife gives birth to a son. There is also some places where you can’t decorate newly weds’ room unless you have both a son and daughter. It’s really messed up but that is how other culture is.

Yeah, I kind of know what you mean, Amy's a great character and they're an amazing couple but it does seem like he makes all the sacrifices and remains so loving and so selfless and caring even when she hurts in the heists/casecation etc and his huge sacrifice in the finale kind of tied into that as while I'm proud of Amy for her promotion and she deserved it, I wanted Jake to be happy too and for something great to happen to him and for him to get a win.

Yeah, I totally understand and appreciate why he left and that it's what best for Mac and I adore him for being the best Dad ever and making such a big sacrifice, it just makes me kinda sad that the other parents on the show didn't have to give up anything and got to feel empowered and thrive in their jobs and have loving families and after everything Jake had already given up, it's a shame that he didn't get a win in the finale when even the sexist guys on TBBT got everything they wanted without giving up anything. It also made me sad that he might almost lose Boyle as a best friend if he has a new partner as Jake was already a million times better than his Dad and would be no matter what and I just wanted him to be happy as stay at home parents often put their lives on hold and don't tend to get any respect and unfairly don't get to feel that they matter or might feel isolated etc.

The casecation episode is so out of character for both of them. There were so many instances throughout the entire show that made it seem like Jake would love to have kids some day (when he and Amy babysitted Terry's girls, when Charles told him he didn't understand what it was like to have a kid because Jake doesn't have one and never will and Jake says "what, yes I will!", the times he said he'd make a great dad because of something dangerous he was doing) and all of a sudden he doesn't want kids?? And Amy's being pushy about it?? It makes sense that he'd have his reservations and fears about it when the time actually came because of his past with his father, but the downright not wanting kids came out of nowhere for me.

The episode with the debate about having kids is probably my least favourite episode. It just does not seem "canon" to me. I have a difficult time believing that Amy would be in a relationship with someone, date for years, AND get married before ever having one discussion about having kids. Where's her family planning binder? Also if you rewatch the show, even taking into account that Jake would be on the fence about it, Jake does mention a number of different times about having kids/being a father one day.
