As a former poll worker who worked at a call center in Las Vegas there is some truth to what youre saying…kinda. First of all, the vast majority of phone calls the auto dialer calls are cell phones, which means that caller id will reveal an unknown number which means the likelihood of someone answering is very poor. But, every time we get a landline call comes up we would get excited because we know that they are more likely to pick up and actually complete a poll. Every now and then we can complete a poll on a cell phone, but its a lot tougher.

Actually, a serious pollster tries to take a polling sample matching the overall demographics (age groups, geographics, socioeonomic status, gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation). So either you worked with a bad pollster or you cut corners and ruined his poll by skewing the polling sample.

I did this in 2016. I turned off the TV and then the next morning deliberately didn't listen to any radio or news no my drive to the (train station) I think had a deafening music in my years and I played a game. I'm a proud South Carolinian. My family roots go back to land grants, issued by King George and I love my state, but I'm ready to go to these battleground states (I don't count GA & NC, because I know where they stand) and attempt to have a conversation with a real Harris supporter. I have no reason to trust the media or the polls they show me. It feels as if the ground under my feet is about to erupt and shot TRUMP! I don't see any real thing that shows Harris is even competent. She's not Biden and she's not Trump, there are only two people on earth that don't have that in common. It's as relevant as how black she is or if she's lying about her position now, or has she been lying her entire life and is now being truthful, she attempted the Biden, hide through the entire campaign tactic, but we were all out of COVID and she isn't 90 years old, that failed and she tried any and everything to avoid a real interview & saw it wasn't going to work, went to FOX, tried to filibuster, speak slowly and blame everything on Trump, but was still exposed as incompetent and angry. There is obviously not a real decision to be made here. You hate Donald Trump's personality? Do you love your country more? We know men shouldn't be playing women's sports. We know the borders are an issue. We know it's not better for America or the environment for us to drill our own energy because we do it cleaner than anyone and it doesn't have to be shipped in, causing more pollution. RealClearPolitics' polling report card is an interesting thing to look at. Polls as a whole skew very much towards Democrats, though interestingly skewed towards Republicans during the past two midterms. Looking at RCP's "This Day In History" section for 2016 and 2020 vs today, it does not look good for Democrats.

happened in 2012, 2022, a decent amount of races in 2018 (and the generic ballot). 2008 was mixed with the error being different directions from state to state but Obama's lead was so huge it didn'[t really matter. Point is.. polling errors have basically no co-relation with each other. they just happen and trying to gauge them ahead of times is a fools errand.

No, if anything they’ll likely be less accurate now that they are using data from the 2020 census. That’s why democrats were so underestimated in the ‘22 midterms and in every special and local election since then. The 2020 census undercounted certain demographics that tend to vote Democratic such as racial/ethnic minorities, young adults, and college students. Polls also continue to underestimate the power of the abortion rights movement. Some pollsters have admitted all of this. The only pollster that continues to be high quality is the Des Moines Register poll, but they only poll Iowa, which isn’t a battleground, so not that interesting. Dems likely have a landslide on election night. Harris wins Biden’s 2020 map easily, probably flips NC, and I won’t be surprised if she flips TX and/or FL. I’ll be even less surprised if Senate Dems flip seats in TX and/or FL. Lucas Kunce in MO and Dan Osborn in NE are also dark horse candidates that shouldn’t be written off. Dems likely win a 30+ seat majority in the House and flip numerous governorships and state legislatures. Abortion rights will be successful in every state where it’s on the ballot. Republicans are toast.

Polls will become more accurate when you can figure how to account for “propensity bias.” Mainstream polling - reflective of mainstream ethos as a pseudo government adjunct - has a slightly higher tendency to contact respondents within their own bubble / echo chamber. Going further, the more left/liberal/progressive and LESS libertarian a person is, the more likely they are to respond to a random contact and then provide their opinion. Together, these factors magically combine to comprise propensity bias … the reason why Hillary won the polling handily but lost the election and why Biden crushed his polling but barely “won” his election. With propensity bias if the polls are anywhere near tied now, a sweep is coming. Perhaps with cascading positive down ballot effects.
