I live in a small community. I worked the polls and want my vote to be anonymous. My ballot envelope would be opened by a neighbor. A numbered voting slip is pulled. That # is written on the envelope and next to my name in red in both of the polling books (one book for the town, the other goes to the county). The poll worker takes the ballot and puts it into the machine and spindles the #. But the poll worker can read my ballet. I'll be voting in person.

Leaving reproductive rights up to the states is like leaving segregation up to the states. It's kicking the can down the road and basically saying, "We don't care if the women in Texas are dying because of the policies there--or that women in Idaho are not getting emergency care because of their inhumane policies." People who are pro-life need to be pro-life for the entire life the child who is saved--which includes making sure they are loved and cared for as growing children. But it also should include the women who give birth to those children. Mothers are not less than the babies they give birth to.

"Pro-life" people are actually just pro-birth. They don't care that they're forcing SA victims to deliver their assaulter's children. They don't care about victims of incest or contraceptives not working. In their eyes, "if they didn't want a baby they shouldn't have gotten pregnant" is a perfectly valid argument. They refuse to let women make educated decisions about their own bodies when their lives or the life of the baby they're carrying is threatened. They care about control. They care about power. Once the child is born, it's the woman's responsibility entirely because it's too expensive and requires too much empathy that they lack. Why stop at the state level? We should go hyper-local with this issue and leave reproductive rights up to the individual person / people involved. Reproductive healthcare is too personal and complex to be decided at any governmental level - whether federal or state. Just as we wouldn't want state legislatures determining other private medical decisions, these deeply personal healthcare choices belong with individuals in consultation with their doctors, families, loved ones etc. Government's role should be protecting people's ability to make these personal medical decisions, not making those decisions for them. And really it goes beyond just a medical issue - it’s about the decision whether or not to bring a life into the world. It’s really quite sacred - spiritual, even - and no one should be able to enforce their beliefs on another.

If you're talking about solving the underlying sociopolitical issues that got us here, it's more complex, but one way we do that is by having decent people in office who listen, who value education and who support social progress. The only positive thing I can say about Trump is that, as POTUS, we would be less likely to see WWIII because he would serve Ukraine and other Eastern European states over to Putin on a gold platter. OTOH, we would be more likely to have a civil war because he really does want to be a fascist dictator.

Everybody loves peace. That’s a given. You, however, love peace a lot more when you get your way. When you don’t, you hate. Don’t fool yourself that you are some morally elevated person. Hate comes from the darkest part of our being and leads to consequences you don’t anticipate. Check yourself. I’m voting for Trump. I am a single dad taking care of 2 young kids after my beautiful wife died from cancer. I’m doing my best to raise them, earn money, pay my taxes, help people in my circle when they need it, give to charity, and make my wife proud. Do you hate me too?

Ezra Klein’s “It’s Not Just Age” (NYT Podcast) is a brilliant podcast of how Trump’s second term is so dangerous due to the mix of factors: age, personality disorder, lack of guardrails. He breaks down the specifics of how the first WH staff kept things from spiraling out of control and outlines in detail how it will differ this time. I believe when people refer to “lack of guardrails” this time without knowing what Trump was trying to do like shoot protesters and shooting missiles into Mexico for example, the danger loses its impact.

I drove through PA last week on my way to/from Ohio and NJ and definitely drove through Trump Country with all the signs. Thst said I also saw many Harris signs and also plenty of homes without signs and so I quietly took away some hope from that.

I have a small army in NY voting for Trump. There are close to 5000 people in my group meeting up and bringing friends. I've never seen so many people in NY pumped for Trump. There are a lot more of us than you know. 😂😂😂
