Love this traditional holiday! My groundhog comes out daily, even in the winter. Let me add, he's not mine like a pet. He lives under my barn and we have a mutual understanding..he doesn't bother anyone and we dont bother him. He doesnt get in the garden and in return, he gets scrap fruits and veggies 😊

Phil's inner circle claims that the same groundhog has been predicting the weather at Gobbler's Knob for nearly 140 years. Phil's immortality stems from a secret elixir of life he drinks each summer. The secret elixir is avaliable only to him abd each sip " gives him seven years of longevity." President of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Thomas A Dunkel told NPR." There's only one Punxsutawney Phil," Dunkel told KDKA news. We lived not far from Punxsutawney, Pa. Fir 30 years and there was only ever one Punxsutawney Phil. You can even go to the town of Punxsutawney and talk with towns people and they will tell you the same. Now on May 13th 2024 Punxsutawney Phil and his partner Phyllis had two kits born to them. Their names are Sunny who is a girl and Shadow who is a boy. That was a very big to do in Punxsutawney PA. A little more so you all know that Phil and his mate are super well cared for. Punxsutawney Phil and his mate live in the Groundhog Zoo at Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania. The zoo is Climate-controlled and connected to the Town Library and Park. The Groundhog Zoo is a man-made burrow that's open year round. Visitors can see Phil and other groundhogs through a window from outside the Burrow. Phil's lights and temperature are consistent year-round, so he doesn't hibernate like outdoor groundhogs . Phil's favorite foods to eat include Kale, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and bananas. Also the names fir the offspring of Phil and Phyllis were chosen by a community contest which allowed fans to put in their suggestions. Also tge word kits means baby groundhogs. If you ever get the chance to travel to Punxsutawney Pennsylvania make sure you see Phil and his wife Phyllis and check out the beautiful town and take yourself back some gifts. Lots of other things to see around that area. Even take a train ride through the valley where Oil was first discovered in PA . You can get on at Drake well which also has a museum attached to the gift show in Titusville PA. Or get on at Rynd Farm just outside of Oil City. Address is 173 Old Bankson Road Oil City 16301. Everything is marked to find it easily. The train ride is 3 hours long. It will take you through scenic Oil Creek Park and to the area that Oil was first discovered in Pennsylvania. Beautiful there. Hope to make it back there one day but we would be going to the beautiful lake we loved Pymatuning Lake it sits between Ohio and Pennsylvania and located inside Pymatuning State Park. 3/4 of the lake is in Pennsylvania and 1/4 is in Ohio. Another beautiful area to see while in North Western Pennsylvania. The fish is great !! And camping is available for RVs and Tent. Each area also has a store in case u run out of something. Anywho enjoy my home state of PA. We lived in NW PA for 30 years.

Not really. This is what natives, nomads, people who live off the land, the Old Farmers used to do. Where the Farmer's almanac came from. I can look at my dog's fur and tell you when the cold is going to hit based on his response. Why don't you know this stuff? You should know, the internet is not accurate This isn't accurate because it's a ceremony. But those of us who live pastoral lives absolutely look at nature to figure out what our weather is going to be I already knew we were in for a mild winter because of what was going on last summer and especially watching nature last fall. Toiled 11 months out of the year to give that salary to someone else, all the middlemen involved in our lives skimming off the top, interest, financing, fees, code enforcement... and then the 12th of the month was spent on Christmas! I'm looking at that life in my rearview mirror with 20/30 vision. Not perfect, but close enough Take a step back... When you can, or you get your empty nest - Get out. It's totally worth it. I've heard this story in childhood from my first foster father over 50 years ago. This is the first time I get to know where it's from and actually happen upon it on a live NBC News broadcast earlier today, dawn, February 2, 2025... in Punxsutawney Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Gobblers (?). You guys make it Joyful and a full set of activities for the event. I like the fact that it's simple and fun, just plain men, with no particular talent nor cultural induced economic criteria, no self destructive behavior, just smiles, fun and tradition and inviting participation from the audience. I'm surprised at the National and now International Broadcast of NBC acknowledging them to do their thing without Announcer interruption.🎉 Btw, Winter is the time for pondering one's life mission and purpose 🎉

Why is this a thing? There are hundreds of people there to watch a groundhog get yanked from his home, held high in the air, then forced to go through some strange ritual while a huge crowd screeches at him. I don’t get it.
