They spend millions on homes and end up with structures as fragile as cardboard. In Mexico, we build with cement, and our homes withstand hurricanes. My heart goes out to everyone affected by Helene and Milton. I offer my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in these devastating storms. It’s disturbing to think that the government may share some of the blame. Can you believe it? He once tried to withhold aid from California during the wildfires, and now he’s deflecting blame onto a previous administration for his own failures. And, on top of that, didn’t the Florida Governor recently sign a law barring a state agency from even mentioning the term “climate change”?
@OliverLiam-px3vxАй бұрын
This is heartbreaking. My heart goes out to Florida, sending love from California. I work for FEMA, and it’s unfortunate how political everything has become. Project 2025 even aims to eliminate the National Weather Service-no more weather forecasts or hurricane monitoring. As for my advice: are you sure you don’t want to wait a week or two before starting to rebuild, just to make sure no more hurricanes are on the way?

What was so surprising about this hurricane is that the tornadoes weren’t the usual small, fast-moving F1 or F2 types. Instead, they were large, violent wedge tornadoes, like the F3s you’d expect to see in the Midwest. It’s hard being an American right now. While I wouldn’t go as far as putting a maple leaf patch on my backpack, her irrational behavior, lack of intelligence, and the negative impact on others makes me feel both embarrassed and ashamed. Sending our thoughts to everyone in Florida and the surrounding areas-stay strong and safe. Much love from here.

Elect a clown, and you get a whole circus... a circus that plays games with people's lives. Georgia deserves someone better as their leader. It's all just about themselves and money.

Yeah, saw this yesterday, and I'm still befuddled; why was a CRANE allowed to stay up with an impending Cat 3/4 storm on the way? Forcasters were announcing Milton's arrival and its crazy storm development at least a week and a half prior to landfall. Wouldn't the company realize, "Huh, yeah, we need to take this thing down, or it's gonna fall.".... ? 🤦🏾♀️ This caused entirely avoidable damage, not to mention being potentially injurious or deadly to someone! 😤 Very irresponsible and indifferent to life and property. 😠

One of my good friends & neighbors has a big limb through her living room ceiling. Her family is all ok but I don’t think our electric grid is a priority one. No idea how long we’ll be out. Not everyone can leave. If you have the money to travel, the gas stations might be out of gas. Then the traffic so bad, you might as well take cover in your own house. Then there are the disabled and those with many animals. It’s hard for a lot of the most vulnerable people to leave on such short notice. Don’t be so quick to judge.

Officials always tell us to evacuate so that they don't have to risk the lives of first responders trying to save them but people still stay. If you have unique reasons that make evacuation more difficult you have to plan well in advance. Like at the beginning of each year. Many schools convert to shelters. Often there are shelters nearby. It doesn't always require a hotel stay. Our next door neighbors are both teachers. They always help manage the school shelter and stay through the storms.
