See ,for any competitive exam like gate ,net,jam, you need to practice lots of questions besides knowing concepts properly.NPTEL lectures are overall very nice if you want to learn the subject very well. But Ultimately it depends on you what you want.Some students can read by themselves.Some student needs proper guidance.If you feel you need guidance,it is better to join some coaching institute and took preparation. Best of luck
