Really looking forward to all the new content! My advice in terms of the data side of things would be not to skimp on it! Run at least a pair of CAT6 cables to anywhere you'd possibly have a device that requires network - desks, TVs, access points, printers.etc. I'd then bring the cables into a patch panel within the comms cab (instead of just crimping connectors onto the cables), and in particular I'd recommend a keystone patch panel where you terminate individual modules onto the cables then clip them into the panel instead of the style where you punch down the cables straight onto the panel, they're just so much nicer to work with. Finally, don't underestimate the size of the comms cab - get one with plenty room to grow and in particular watch the depth, some of the shallower ones can end up being too shallow for some network switches.

Remember - you can never have too many Cat 6 runs. Min of 2 to bedrooms, 4/8 to office/behind media centre, runs to where you want PoE cameras and PoE wireless access points :) I'm happy with my Unifi UDM Pro, 48 Port pro PoE switch and 4 PoE AP's, going for their cameras next.

You should run fibre to the underground bunker opposed to data. Should also install a half decent network in the house, Unify would probably best, most cost effective. Familiarising yourself more with the networking side & fibre could open up additional options for your customers too… especially commercial!

Hi Nick , I'm loving the ideas of the house and garage extensions , if your doing a self build which is great as regards to saving money and knowing the work is done right first time that's fantastic, just beware it eats into your personnel life and leaves you very tired and mentally drained after it has all been done . my overall cost of the build for my side kitchen extension, utilities room , downstairs toilet and shower area was £45000 dry shell compared to £60000 from the cheapest builder, I've still got to fit the kitchen , utilities room and down stairs toilet and shower area and to pay for it, I am now into my 4th year of the project. was it worth it all depends on weather your happy with cost over the mental health aspect. on top of all that was the 12 months of planning , party wall agreement , build over agreement with seven Trent before I had even started the extension project .

You should ask Colin Furze about building a secret basement, apparently it changes your ability to sell your house as a house, it turns in to selling a bunker with a house attached xD (but 100% if you're not subscribed to him, go give that project a watch, see the issues he faced re condensation, oxygen, co2, etc) Be wary of heat pumps, if they aren't installed 1000% correctly you will have problems, noise, inefficient systems... Personally I think the tech needs another decade to smooth out. Also reconsider your odd obsession with shipping containers xD Just build a concrete foundation and make a garden room or something.

This seems like it could be like the series that Dan from DSS electrical did when he got his new house, shame he left KZbin, having seen loads of your obsessively (is that a word), neat cable runs etc, to see it put in place in your very own pride and joy is going to be very interesting . Regarding the moss on the roof, there's an exterior cleaner KZbinr who's not a million miles from you who can steam clean the roofs and then add a Biocide to stop it growing back (or at least quickly) - Partridge Exterior, the last video he did he mentioned what Biocide he uses if you did want to do yourself. And knowing how you'll stress out best way to do cable runs, just general planning, seek the likes of the other big players, Dave Savery, CJR, Corey, Artisan (much as it pains you they do seem good at solar), or try get DSS Dan to make a special appearance. Best of luck with, well new adventure, we'll enjoy watching!

Well done Nick, I enjoy your content! I use Starlink too, and it is fantastic, however for maximum upload speeds I would look at FTTP (which I would imagine isn't available at your address, otherwise you would have gone for that instead) or a Fibre Ethernet connection (a little more costly to have installed, and monthly costs, but thoroughly worthwhile). I can arrange a very competitive quote for you. Also on the subject of fibre, I would run a fibre link (which you can buy to length pre-made, so no terminating) in the duct to any garden rooms, as it can be safely run in the same duct.

I'm insanely jealous by your new project, the plans to re-wire / plumb, the solar, heatpump and bunker. Please makes sure you (get your brother in?) run some home automation while everything is going in. Shellys and/or Zigbee relays for lighting another other devices, Power monitoring. Ideally running Home Assistant to control everything with minimal cost (I'm happy to help with that part but others a far more knowledgable). Also consider automation of the plumbing for baths / showers. And water leak sensors too. My dream is to say 'Computer, run me a bath' and 10 minutes later I have a perfect depth bath water at the correct temp.

(Watch this space I’m sure) Looking forward to following this project though i suspect like my projects over the years they will stretch further and wider in every way more than you could possibly of planned for but I’m sure you’re the man for the job. Probably would of at least looked at building a new property on that plot for yourself and selling the existing to part fund or even keep it and rent it out until one of the kids are old enough to move in. ( preferably the one you like most 😂) As for a loft extension I would just go wider than higher as you definitely have the space. Good luck with it all anyhow will be watching as always 👍🏼

Why not include it as part of the house extension so you'll add value to it? It will also help with the LTV for your mortgage then. Thats a lovely new garage too, I'd get rid of that unit you have now as I reckon the garage is more tham adequate and will save you a ton in rent. I understand Thomas Nagy having a unit as he has specialist trucks and a big team. I wouldn't like to be stuck paying rent on unit in a downturn.
