Generally you'd want to put in the noggins/cross bracing first, because if the joists are twisted and you force them back, it might twist the joist away from the OSB sheets, but as you glued and screwed it, you're probably going to be fine. 😂❤

You've definitely got patience, using such small osb sheets. Would have been so much quicker getting 4x8 sheets of osb.

and probably half the price, those loft sheets are way more expensive and generally that size so you can get them through the loft hatch.

My friend that's a good joiner with mechanical engineering skills would have hinged the staircase at the top and mounted an electrical winch on the ceiling to lift it up out of the way when not in use.

you are down to earth ,you explain how you going to do yhe work and you try to keep to a plan. as long as you have use boards 12mm or more and you not jumping up and down you done a great job.

The only reason you should use those small boards is for an attic that doesn't has space to get a proper 8 by 2 sheet up. And butting the joints is actually more important when the ends are t and g. That way the boards either side help give that joint strength.

Those OSB boards are ok as long as you do a staggered bond against each row, they do lock in reasonably well. For extra security a scrap of wood screwed across both would've been ample - or noggins as you say. Job well done I'd say, couple it with some hand rail for safety and all will be good! When I had a shop I used to love doing stuff like this too, but now using a kitted out garage for my business instead!

The best place for tongue and groove loft boards is Wickes. In my humble opinion.

Others may piss and moan about the size of the OSB you used or whether you staggered joints, but I say you did a fine job with what you had. The floor is well supported and should last a good long time. Always a pleasure to watch, Nick. Good on you.

I've never seen a product like the loft boards before here... Generally you just have to get sheets of plywood or OSB and figure it out, haha... Although we don't really use our attics for storage, that's what basements are for 😜

The right sheets to use are 8*2 and are thicker than them. Loft ones are only for light duty

Too late now, but you should have staggered the boards to land on different joists each row. Also should have used egger d4 flooring glue as wood glue won’t do much on a floor after you’ve walked on it a bit, but it will probably be fine with all those screws in it.

Looks like the stapler has a safety sensor that prevents you clipping the cable. That’s why it wasn’t firing🤷🏻‍♂️

Looks gd. If were me I’d fill in the floor between the mezzanine and the stud wall give u a touch more floor space. Or u could put stair along the back of the stud wall save u losing to much floor space still shelve under the stairs

ahaha you got the shite boards. I did exactly the same when i insulated and boarded my loft. ended up buying new bigger stuff in person. also fyi not all boards are tongue and grooved on the same side. found that out the hard way too 😅

Would have been better with D1 glue, you wouldn't need to do all that screwing, they will creek in the end, good fo though, can never fault anyone giving something a go.
