Every industry is "a little shady" The problem with towing is for every shitty company there are shitty people/customers that are part of the reason for shady business practices. You don't get ahead in the towing industry by being the honest respectable company, We do everything honestly and ethically and the only thing we get in return is lost business to shady companies who everyone looks the other way for, And customers/accounts that try to abuse you by not paying bills, abandoning vehicles with you, insurance companies offering pennies on the dollar, etc. I will always be against shady and illegal towing practices and will always operate morally and ethically but at the end of the day until law enforcement starts actually cracking down on the bad players involved the only thing those morals will get the rest of us is the crumbs left behind from the very shady companies in question... Especially in areas where "wreck chasing" exists, At least in my area that's an absolute no go so I don't have to worry about losing business to that, but in areas where that does occur I'm sure any good company has long been run out of business.

There's a company in Massachusetts that teaches a class for towing companies about how to exploit the loopholes in insurance policies and environmental laws. They teach you how to take a 5,000 recovery and turn it into an 80,000 recovery I guarantee just from the examples that they used from the bills that this company has been to that class
@towtruckaj4 ай бұрын
And have you actually looked into why those "loopholes" are exploited? Insurance companies will refuse to pay and recovery work at all unless the person is insured for that, When they are not insured for that and the person refuses to pay the tow company is left with nothing after all the work done... Therefore these companies pretty much lie about environmental cleanup and bill insane amounts for it to make up for the insurance companies refusal to pay for recovery work, Basically "recovery was free but cleaning up the gallon of fuel that spilled was 15,000 dollars" In theory this is suppose to be done in a manner that covers what your regular and fair rates would have been, in practice companies take it too far and gouge the hell out of the insurance companies, In the end this is all the fault of the insurance company for refusing to pay for recovery work in the first place, had they just paid the reasonable recovery bills towing companies were invoices for they never would have had to go looking for "loopholes" to abuse.

Absolutely the wrong way to go about it, the only thing that would do is cause more shady practices to turn a profit. The reality is if everyone was required to have insurance that covered towing and recovery then towing companies wouldn't have to price gouge to make up for the jobs they can't get paid on. Make everyone be insured for towing and recovery, that will allow companies to profit with reasonable rates, and do as some areas have done and have state sponsored "quick clearance" programs that pay more for the quick clearance of major roadways, That would incentivise good quick recoveries and make it so people don't get price gouged to make up for the people who don't pay.

And who is to blame for that company hosting those classes? If insurance companies and vehicle owners would pay us for our recoveries in the first place then companies wouldn't have to resort to padding their bills so much to keep the bills paid. It is all a snowball effect, People don't pay their bills so the company you described found a way to make up for it and in the end that turned into heavily padded and marked up bills which ends up in more scrutiny in the towing industry which will lead us to more troubles getting paid fair rates which will lead guys to once again abuse the system to make up for it. The answer is quite simple, Allow us to charge reasonable rates, and make every single person have insurance that covers towing and recovery. If we got paid on every job we do then we would actually make a profit without shady companies having to resort to extortion to profit.

I’d rather spend like 20k on a lawyer. Sue sue sue. Price gouging is illegal.

Whoa !!!!!! That’s extreme robbery ! Gotta be illegal man wtf

They paid it? A lawyer could have had that $88K bill down to $7,500 for a couple thousand in fees at most. That's mind boggling they felt that was necessary. Furthermore, the city may be liable for the ongoing extortion if they had received complaints and kept Ultimate fraud and towing in the rotation. Wow.
@echochamber44204 ай бұрын
The law enforcement agencies have the ability to remove these predatory tow companies from the rotation…but they don’t. These companies should choose their own service provider and get into a fixed price contract. This would stop all the bullshit.

It is all the towing companies that the police call or this one company that is out of line with their bills?
@Funtimes6704 ай бұрын
I don’t know, how about taking them out of the rotation? Wonder how much they donate to the policeman’s ball each year?
@dobermanpac10643 ай бұрын
The answer is Government… they’ll screw it up. Smart drivers/companies SUE IN COURT.

I would definitely go to jail for burning that company down!!

I would bet the Staties are getting some nice kickbacks from the fraudulent tow company

Just pointing out, Ultimate Towing has an owner. With an address. That is all.

Wonder who in the state government is getting the extra paydays?

Is there any other kind of towing bill? Joining AAA is the best money I have spent, lockouts, flat tires, and towing . It covers any vehicle I or my family is in. One tow call pays the yearly premium. And they're always quick to respond, and I don't have to pay anything .
@wrzl16753 ай бұрын
That’s criminal is what that is but for some reason towing is where all the shady types go.
