Just want to say I appreciate this channel. I have explored a number of the places you have been in your various videos, and scoping out quite a few more. Headed to Brevard in a couple months and this is a great preview of some of the places I have my eye on. Surely this will save me some dead ends. I especially appreciate that you are more focused on the destinations and just exploring areas well off the beaten path and sharing for people like me who are doing the same thing. So much overlanding content is about $80k rigs and equipment, but as a fellow Triangle-based weekend warrior with a mostly stock Toyota (03 Sequoia) I really appreciate someone who's all about just getting out there and exploring with a simple budget-friendly setup. Happy exploring and thank you!

My favorite part: "Come on y'all we have to be better than that" as you just finished a close up of a Busch Light can. I see a double meaning in that statement 🤣

Glad I found your channel, I live in Ashe county. I’ve been building out my 1st gen. Tacoma getting her ready for overlanding. Big tumbs up on the “pack it out” comment! 👍🏻👊🏻

Absolutely! I can't believe how many slobs there are who think nothing of chucking a empty fast food bag out the window or leaving beer cans scattered all over. My father in law recently bought a 1st Gen Tacoma and built it out, and it has been fantastic on trips. Great truck! You can see a quick walk around that I did of his setup here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnVfmCsprl_pc0

Nice! I like the camper shell on yours. I have been thinking about getting a Tacoma myself as a second build that I can pass on to my kids once they start driving, and I think I would do a camper shell.

I just took my daughter exploring and camping in this area. 471 (Cathy's Creek) seems to have been rebuilt in a lot of areas by the FS. They've also unfortunately placed many more of those giant boulders preventing pulling off in old campsites as well as posted "no camping here" signs in every site I could find. We continued on to 475 and 475B and managed to find one tiny spot (which was still nice!). I'll have to explore Yellow Gap again next time. Love the channel! I wish there were more people putting this type of info out there. Travel on!

That stinks that they are closing camping sites, but you know, as long as people leave so much trash behind I can't blame them too much. I'm glad y'all found a spot. My hope is that as people are educated, and as we take some responsibility for cleaning up after ourselves and others, then maybe access will improve over time.
@davidmayo5464

@@mountainstoseaoverland9855 Yep, exactly. There were signs along 475B threatening to close camping there as well for the same reasons. We cleaned up a bit of trash left before us at our site too. A real shame! Hopefully, we can spread awareness of LNT practices and save these areas!

Great video. I did this drive today on 5000 to Powhatan camp ground and then back home to Asheville in my 2011 Expedition. My first off road expedition. Going to do Pinnacle Mtn. Rd next. I think I'll take it to the pinnacle and head back to Sky Valley Rd. Thanks again! PM me if you're in the Asheville/Brevard area again. Beers on me.

Starting to dig your videos. From an archival perspective, it sure would be nice if you gave more details besides “turning off 475.” Showing a map would be even better or list key locations in description (that should be a given). I’m looking at a map now and would really like to know your exact route.
@mountainstoseaoverland9855

Sorry man... I try to be specific enough that people can follow along if they have google maps open (and some videos do that better then others), but I want to be able to enjoy the trips and keep things simple while I'm exploring. Too much tracking and it becomes laborsome, and I would probably give up the whole sharing side of things.

Mountains to Sea Overland no need to apologize. I just figured if you were going to the trouble of editing and uploading, you’d want people to be able to find it via searching. Just an observation.

I took my kids for a drive from North Mills River recreation area down Yellow Gap road all the way to Living Waters near Balsam Grove and every camp site along those roads was taken. It was a beautiful drive but nowhere near as much luck finding open camp sites as I have in the area around Linville Gorge up to Mortimer.

Subscribed and like your videos. Question, what is that rack that seems to hold a Pelican or Plano storage container with Maxtrax on top, on roof with a wind breaker. That is so cool. Seems like extension of Pioneer roof rack on which RTT. I have a JL Jeep with Pioneer rack and about to add RTT.
@mountainstoseaoverland9855
@mountainstoseaoverland9855 5 жыл бұрын
It is made by BajaRack, and it is a full length version of what they call the Utility MG. I'm not sure if they make one for the Wrangler, but if so it is a fantastic option. I bolted a Pelican case to it, and then used the pins that MaxTrax sells to mount the boards. You can check out my walk around video of the 4Runner that's on my channel to see it up close. At the moment I actually moved my RTT to an offroad trailer that I built, but when the tent is on the truck it's really nice for the rack to be flat and really low profile. Thanks for following the channel!

@mountainstoseaoverland9855

I try to share enough info in my videos so folks can find where we went by looking at Google maps, but I don't do any kind of route mapping when I'm driving and I don't have any kind of website with routes on them. For me, filming the trip is already enough of an added project when I'm on the road. If it becomes too much of a pain to gather and publish a bunch of data then I'm sure I wouldn't be so enthusiastic to do trips so often. Plus it takes away some of the fun for you guys... you gotta do your own exploring if you want to find out every last detail!

Oh man, I wish I knew! The one factor that I have noticed is hunting season. Some areas seem to open up in the fall so hunters can access gamelands. But I haven't been able to find a centralized listing of whats open and whats not. Which is why I go out and just spend time exploring! And hopefully over time this channel becomes a resource for finding out details for particular areas.
