Opposite Gorges State Park on the NC/SC border is Musterground Road. We spent an awesome weekend offroading and camping. Check it out to see more!

Im glad to see people actually respecting wildlife. The way you all handled that rattlesnake encounter is how everyone should handle such an encounter when out in nature. There would be a whole lot less bites. Great job and thank you for respecting wildlife!

Great video. This place has been on a list of places I want to visit in the area. I'm doing about the same thing you're doing. I've got a seven and nine year old and we go out on weekends to Pisgah and further into western NC exploring, camping and making videos here and there.

There are 7 different hunt camps in Mustergrounds. You can also take one of those roads and end up in The Gorges State Park but it gets real rough...factory sitting vehicles is highly not recommended for the full trip. I spent 5 hrs one day exploring that whole area.

Yeah when we approached that gate from the SC side it was closed, or else we would have explored up there. But we were glad to be able to go as far as we did in SC

This looks like so much fun. I'd like to do this with a truck bed tent. I just don't know where to start. It seems to me that all the land in SC is owned or locked down by the government. (Like this one only being available during hunting season). How do you find legal places for obverlanding and camping? I'd love to take my boys to do this.

Nice. Made it back to camp 6, the open area in my 2001 locked prerunner, Tacoma. I tend to wheel mostly alone but go out with my Tacoma group sometimes. Which spur did you take out of camp area 6 to get lake access. As if you are looking into camp 6 from the main trail.
@mountainstoseaoverland98555 жыл бұрын
We took the road that is a steep uphill directly to the right of the entrance road. It gets a little squirrely back there though with some pretty washed out areas, so may be a little nervous with 2wd. Looking at the map I think there are some other spots before Camp 6 as well that have trails down to the lake.

@@mountainstoseaoverland9855 do you know how many campsites are out there? are we allowed to camp anywhere along this road or only at the designated campsites ? i cant remember, it is there a it has been a long time since i have been out there on my motorcycle
@mountainstoseaoverland98554 жыл бұрын
I think that as long as you aren't in the road then you could camp anywhere, since it's a wilderness area and a lot of people through hike a trail through the same area that takes days to finish. But that being said I don't think there are that many places where I few trucks can together get off the road to camp. From memory I would say that there are probably 5-6 different spots that you could camp. But none of them can be reserved ahead of time... first come first serve. Be ready to do some exploring!

Wish I could do a PM! What are your GPS/map resources? I know how to get to Musterground but would love to find an actual trail map and something with the NC side - Auger Hole, etc. GAIA isn’t too helpful as this only shows up as a “trail” not a road and isn’t a USFS road, but I’m still getting used to the app. Maybe I’m missing something. Haven’t tried iOverland.

@mbfreebirdfarm2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeferretti7422 , you take SC Hwy. 130 (Whitewater Falls Road) to Duke Power’s Bad Creek Project. Turn in at their gate onto Bad Creek Road. Follow that road. You will turn left off Bad Creek Road onto the Foothills Trailhead Access Road. Musterground Road starts at the big parking lot for the Foothills Trail.

@mountainstoseaoverland98555 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is just the one way in and out, by the Duke Energy facility, so you need to backtrack. The road actually does connect at the NC border with the offroading area south of Gorges State Park, but unforunately the gate is closed at the border and it seems to stay that way.
@MrMrsregor4 жыл бұрын
@@mountainstoseaoverland9855 i have never seen that gate open even when you are allowed on both sides of it :( it is to help them regulate and patrol...but even worst, i hear gorges state park 4x4 trails are now permanently close (but i have not confirmed that for my self)

Red gates are permanently closed to the public... just found some info about Mustergrounds rd (the roads on the other side of that gate) Dates for Seasonally Open Roads Green gates are open: Sept. 15 through Jan. 1 and March 20 through May 10 Green gates are closed: Jan. 2 through March 19 and May 11 through Sept. 14 Red gates are permanently closed to the public
@mountainstoseaoverland98554 жыл бұрын
The green gates open and close based on the SC deer hunting season in the fall and turkey hunting season in the spring, so the dates above likely apply for this year, but season dates change year to year so its probably best to look them up each year.
