I run BC Coilovers on a softer dampening setting with the Progress Technology sway bars on the middle hole with General GT AS tires. Fantastic street setup.

I'm new to the MX5 but I know roadster sport bars are going to be my 2nd mod on my 2006 NC.

Would this be the same for the 124 spider / Nd chassis? I’m stuck on getting the roasters or progress or eibach or flyin miatas . My spider is a daily driver that will main have autocross uses once a month and possibly a hpde day once a year. Also not sure about going to a 16x8 or a using a 17x7-8 as I’ll have to budget and may have to make the autocross wheels / tires be the daily drivers too. I’m currently fully stock classica trim

Would the Roadster Sport bar be adjustable enough to run 245 or 255 summer tires on 17x9 wheels and then run 205 or 215 snow or all season tires on 17x7 wheels in the winter?

So, I should have the RX8 bars?
@GWRTeam
@GWRTeam Жыл бұрын
It depends on your set up (tire/wheel, suspension, power) and what you are trying to accomplish handling-wise (street, autocross, track day, or track competition).
@ericmccolough2482

Coloured in light put a yellow dot RX8 front and an orange (there's 3 options) dot rear on his. Some say for street, just put one on the front. That seems a starting point. The RX8 has only 1 hole so no adjustment but should be fine for street. If you track the car as well, get aftermarket or the heavier dot.

what about Nd/NF chasis. this is where I get confused. as I will mostly be street driving on normal factory tires/ all seasons. but then once a month autocross on 200tw tires. I'm also concerned with comfort. hard I wish there was a bar that between the roadster and the progress bar.

And 2 years later and still trying to decide . Would the progress be to much sway bar for a 195/50/16 all season?
@RbNetEngr
@RbNetEngr Жыл бұрын
@@schizobipolarjoe Based on what Ryan said in the video…YES. The Progress bar is best used with a stickier tire, and are more track oriented. The tires you are mentioning are street class tires, and pairing them with Progress bars will transform your car into an understeering pig.

@@RbNetEngr thanks so it be best to get roadster sport or something like the flyin miata? whats hard is on autocorss and hpde days I'll be wanting to use a 17x7-8 with a 215-225/45 200tw tire, but for daily driving I'm going to be using 195/50/16 all seasons.

@@schizobipolarjoe My approach for the suspension on a dual purpose car is to optimize it for the environment for which it will mainly be used. So in your case, where 99% of use will be on the street, with smaller all-season tires, I would NOT optimize the suspension (or, in this case, swaybars) for the 1% use case of using larger sticky track tires. If you do, then the large front swaybar will end up giving your car way too much understeer on the street with those all-season tires. So, it’s up to you if you want to decrease the enjoyment of 99% of your driving just for the sake of having some better performance on the track. Personally, I would not do that. Is it possible that you can put a better/larger set of all-season tires on your car? There are Ultra High Performance All-Season tires available in 205/45R17 (stock size) or even some larger sizes. Tires such as Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4, Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus, Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+, etc.

@@RbNetEngr thanks. I may just have to sell the 16x6.5 wheels and tires and find a 17x7 and all seasons tire for daily driving. then would it make sense to do sway bars after doing that ?

Do the RS2 sways make regular driving / spirited street driving worse in any ways? I.e. dealing with uneven pavements, bumps, and other road conditions that you would otherwise encounter on streets vs a track setting? I am coming up on 80k on my NC2 (has bilsteins) and want to take the opportunity to upgrade shocks soon, but am also looking at a mild lowering spring set and/or a sway set. Not sure how valuable the sways would be if I'm only tracking or auto-crossing 1-3x per year or if it will have any unexpected negative effects to reduce any independence of the suspension setup.
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
Stiffer sway bars always come with some compromise but these RS bars are specifically targeted at a stiffness that works well for street use and so the trade off is very small. And you'll be glad you have them when you're at the track or doing any sort of spirited driving! Without upgraded sway bars there is no way to significantly reduce side to side body roll (to get the same effect with stiffer springs you would have to go so stiff that you'd completely lose ride quality). Mildly stiff lowering springs and a set of the RS bars is the way to get great handling without taking a big hit to ride quality.

@@GoodwinRacing1 Thanks for the reply! I wonder if my factory bilsteins will still be ok without a shock upgrade for now. I might get impatient and just buy the springs and sways before it's time to swap the shocks out :D

Stock nc thinking of these but what end links are recommended?
@GWRTeam
@GWRTeam 2 жыл бұрын
For street use we carry several good end links - RoadsterSport, Whiteline, SuperPro, and Racing Beat. They will all work fine. We carry a variety due to today's supply chain issue and a lot of times some brands are out of stock. We also carry AWR end links. These are geared more towards race cars. They can be a bit noisy on the street so we like them for track only cars.

You said that on NC's big sway bar and not that hard springs, work well. But if we run big and stiff sway bars, don't we connect both sides of the car too much and stop each suspension side work less freely and thus lose grip? We might get less roll but sway bars, by connecting side to side, tend to make te car ' like an axle'. I used rx8 yellow dots in my NC and eventhough it reduced body roll, it made the car understeer as many users of those bar reported and while I was turning hard and hitting a bump, it got transfered on both sides and didn't really like it.
@briangoodwin6993
@briangoodwin6993 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, factory RX8 bars not recommended for several reasons including lack of adjustment holes to set balance and avoid that understeer result. Whether you have too much bar on the car and get that live axle feel is strongly connected to amount of grip you run, too much bar for stock tires can have that effect. We tuned this set of bars with stock size wheels/tires on the car.

Remember in the video it was mentioned that while the external diameter of the RS bars was overall larger, the wall density was thinner to reduce weight and add the proper stiffness.
