NC6 Walking Foot Sewing Machine - Review

The NC6 is a fantastic machine! I have personally used and thoroughly tested it, and have no complaints! The NC6 is actually manufactured by Seiko. The Seiko facility is still located in Japan and they are widely known as one of the highest quality sewing machine manufacturers in the world. One of my favorite things about this machine is its simplicity! It is very easy to use and doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles. I also love the Large Bobbin Feature! It allows you to spend more time on your project, and less time worrying about running out of thread or having to change your bobbin. This model has been in production for many years and is proven to last a lifetime. Do not confuse this machine with the Consew RB5! While they look the same, they are manufactured in different countries, with a different standard of parts. The NC6 is made with higher quality parts and materials from Japan. The NC6 is a great machine that will work for all your upholstery needs!

Hmm, I bought the Fabricator and the rest of my order comes today. Super excited and I really like that it was made in the USA. The customer service has been great! I definitely hear you about the price but I like their videos and customer support is awesome.

Nice! Seiko used to make Consew machines. This one looks like 206RB an I would get this machine before I get modern Consew made in China

It’s the same thing from the same factory. They pay the company who sells them on the pallet load a small fee each unit to slap A sticker on it to say they build it. For the 1800 they are asking you could buy load of them . The Seiko foundry plant is in China, lol. It’s “ made in Japan “ only because they build it in Japan . Same kit . It’s all smoke and mirrors. My old company did the same with 1508’s and 1541’s. Bought a pallet of ten each.

Does this NC-6 sew as slow as the Fabricator, Does the Juki 1541 also sew as slow as the Fabricator? Thank you

I like slow , I want to count the stitches some times like doing a bow tie in a car seat back. I changed the pulley and the arm l on the foot pedal , ended up using a variac to slow it down more

Yeah that is a nice option to be able to sew that slow sometimes. Are you happy with the speed now.

I have the Sailrite Fabricator machine and this has the same table design, knee lift lever, bobbin-winding mechanism, and stitch setting dial. Did you notice that John?

It seems like industrial sewing machines (hell, all sewing machines) almost always originate as clones. A ton of walking foot machines were clones of the sailrite 111 series for a long time. Nowadays I see a lot that closely resemble the old PFAFF 1245. At the end of the day theres not really much to these machines and other than some electronic bells and whistles the head, motor, and table designs have been pretty stagnant for decades

Consew 206 RB-5. Same machine. Seiko used to make Consew actually. They're interchangeable.

My question exactly! I think this machine is a bit heavier duty than the Sailrite Fabricator... I like Sailrite stuff, but the basic machine comes from China. I don't want to do business with China anymore, thank you. Japanese stuff is better anyway. Does it actually have a 10 mm stitch?! Wow!

With all due respect to John, because I enjoy his videos and he does great work.....but I wouldn't buy a machine based on one minute of sped up test sew footage. The fit and finish semi-white glove service you get is nice, because that table is a pain to set up and is pretty much the same as every other industrial table out there. I'm not a KZbinr that has a following or anything like that but I'll tell you that you would not be wasting your money on an Ultrafeed or Fabricator (or this Seiko clone, they're very highly regarded). I own both and they've done every single thing I've ever thrown at them. The Fabricator just finished making a pontoon boat cover and now it's being used to sew the edges of two pieces of 5oz veg tan leather together for horse halters. The Ultrafeed's last job was making matching heavy canvas curtains for the entire wing of a private school (10 rooms, banged them out in a week while watching a Miami VIce marathon). The only failure I've ever had was when the needle deflected and punched a hole in the bobbin case assembly plate (but that was my fault for crossing a zipper at the end to lock it down and having the needle position not in the center). That 3/4 hp on the Fabricator has excellent low speed torgue and I noticed that John touched the wheel to kick off his lines once or twice. That may be a feathering holdover habit from a clutch motor but he never went into it. I personally would have liked to have seen the machine run in real time with no background music. That's a very important consideration. Also, I know that azcharlie2009 mentioned that the "basic" machine comes from China. That's not really true anymore. The Ultrafeeds used to be rebranded imports, but they are assembled stateside now from Sailrite's own mold patterns. There are several custom parts in addition to the castings and they are also made stateside. They mention that on their website. The Fabricator is a mix of USA and China, but that's sorta relative in regard to Industrial machine parts because a ton of them are interchangeable. Even Seiko's have different models that are made in Japan or China. Assembled in Japan is okay but I would not get one that was pure Chinese. Also, remember that "Made in Japan" can also mean "from some Chinese parts" much like "Made in USA" can mean the same. Some things are non-critical and that's okay for Chinese origin. There just aren't many factories diversifying that sort of thing and it's a little unavoidable. The Seiko looks on par with the Fabricator in "beefiness", but that Seiko only has a 1/2 HP motor and the Fabricator uses 3/4 HP.

NGinuity I truly thank you for your input and perspective. I will take delivery tomorrow of my Fabricator. I did research prior to my purchase and The Lucky Needle was the review that made me lean towards Fabricator. Almost every one said Fabricator was the one to get. I am used to consew and Juki but that was on the job machines. I am starting my own business and wanted the best to start out with or as close to it as my budget would allow.
