Why is it that the suits (Directors, Asst Dirs, ) seem to lead the bands into stadiums and even extraordinary events such as the Rose Parade, Macy's Parade, etc. It would seem that some drum majors might be seniors or young men months from graduation and stepping out into the world, they should be capable of knowing the route of march. The suits or other band leaders are seeking a little glory or recognition when it is the band and dancers that I want to see and hear. Keeping the crowds back marching on the edges is one thing but strutting out in front yelling 'keep back,' seems to be a wee bit of self-recognition. (At 86 and a former fighter pilot in the RVN back in the '60s, I get to say whatever I feel like saying.)

Distraction u call it, huh,, it’s actually more,, and I was a part of this band before your parents were ten, probably,,, lolol, we felt back then that we were the dam show, not arrogant but confident, and most HBCU bands were either good or great and thought like that, but we could still party together , dam,, but that’s personal,lolo we actually PLAYED and MARCHED approx. 1 mile a day 4 days a week, to and from practice the field , dam, and seeing elders having fun and sharing is an distraction to you ?, I wish they would stop the ugly face look also, we had fun with the parade route folk, we laughed and had fun with them, folks smiled when they saw us coming, u might be witnessing history you don’t understand,,,
