we need the feature length reaction to Norfolk State's Million Dollar Funk $quad at PASIC you guys will LOVE them

Hey guys I’m ColdSteel 2k12. Our Bass line is split up into 3 sections; tonal, mid, and drop basses. The small toms you mentioned are called tenor drums. Then multi tenors (6’s) snares and cymbals.

Hey guys, I marched snare at Elizabeth City State University in '18-19'. Show style marching is based on the tradition,history and community around the school the band is home to. As far as drumline, most of the work is done for drumline battles, floorshows, recruitments and field/stand music. I would recommend looking at Norfolk State University , North Carolina Central University , Bethune Cookman University, Jackson State University, and Virginia State University

Definitely! Cold Steel can put on a show for the eyes. They play some stuff that has you like wow how long did it take to learn and clean that up but also do stuff that is eye pleasing and entertaining but Million Dollar Funk Squad have your ears in heaven with their playing. They may not be as crowd pleasing as cold steel but for those who are percussionist you will have your ears made love to for their entire floor shows

Props for featuring them. They performed at PASIC in recemt years. Also check Norfolk State's drumline, they performed at PASIC as well recently. Both groups are extremely skilled. No school wants to battle these groups they'll destroy all styles in their way because they're so well versed in both.

Norfolk state university. In my opinion is the best at mixing the two styles together
@AgentK400614 сағат бұрын
Nah They don’t march tenors‼️funk squad is more rudimental funk than traditional show style drumming
@bigt506713 сағат бұрын
@ yeah, I agree. M$FS focuses more on technique and sound quality VS Cold steel who is straight up traditional show style with decent sound quality

Recently just checked a video titled "MD Thursday 2024: the warmup" you guys need to see and should react to. There are a few videos of the same performance with some crazy stuff all throughout, especially the cymbal playing. This is also a side of the activity I do not know much about so thanks for making this video!

So I did get to spend a year at nccu, one of At&Ts regional marching rivals. I only got to do the line for a couple rehearsal before international student shit kicked in and I had to drop the class. Since then I’ve done a jazz adjacent big band run by a professor from Ghana up here in Canada. So I can firmly say the style of hbcu drumming is like a mid point between rudimental drumming and that deeper African tradition. The single tenors and bass unisons interact the same way the multiple voices of African drumming call and respond to each other, often using very familiar patterns to that style. So in a weird way even though HBCUs have racked up a reputation for splitting less, they’re really doing it more, because even the unisons are just split with a different section.

Not a drummer but have respect for them, grew up marching corp style in HS and show style in college, love to see dialogue like this the type of people i was around in HS talked trash about show style bands for not being “clean” as a musician you should have a certain level of respect for different styles of playing.

@spoolyboi94343 күн бұрын
Yall love to claim auto tune, you ever see them in person recently?
@albanybestdrumline3 күн бұрын
Nah if it were auto tune it’d be way less dirt. The first clip is early in the marching season like September usually they’re on their first or second maybe even 3rd game. The second clip is rose bowl which is after the season. Lines especially hbcu lines mesh very well as time goes on and the newer kids get the concepts and expectations down packed even more.
@IAMHIM8Күн бұрын
That’s our natural sound come check us out in person before assuming. What you get in the clip you will get in person.
@chutdigadut4 күн бұрын
So many HBCU lines are severely underrated. I think "Drumline" the movie is to blame because they did quite a disservice to the culture by showcasing "dirty" drumming in the movie. It's definitely not a fair representation of the quality that these lines are capable of
