The Herd with Colin Cowherd

Joel Klatt joins Colin Cowherd to discuss how the NCAA is currently handling the investigation on Michigan for allegedly using video to steal signs from opponents. Klatt then breaks down USC's loss against Utah and whether the Trojans meltdown will impact Caleb Williams long-term. He also discusses Ohio State's big win over Penn State and explains why the Heisman Trophy winner could come down to the Buckeyes showdown with the Wolverines in 'The Game.' Klatt previews Oregon-Utah and shares whether Bo Nix can lead the Ducks to a victory in a tough Salt Lake City environment. Watch as Klatt shares his latest Top 10 rankings.

Just really weak stuff from two guys whose opinions I normally respect. I understand you have to tread lightly at this point, but to downplay the role sign stealing can play in the outcome of a game is absolutely baffling. They knew the plays based on scouting that occurred in a manner that was clearly against NCAA bylaws. Do you understand that they have been nearly 80% against the spread in conference games during the time this was happening? How is that not massively concerning to you, if not absolutely unacceptable? Do you really want to watch a sport where a team knows exactly what the other is going to do all the times? Complete garbage, guys. Learn to pivot when you’re wrong. Be better.

100% this. I agree with literally everything you said. When you realise Colin is one of the handful of humans on earth at the very pinnacle of his field, you begin to realise how intelligent and aware he is. Even his life/parenting advice is always insightful. Theres a brilliant candid interview where he says the most crucial advice he can give for making it in the industry is to always take a stance. Never sit on the fence. Give the audience something to talk about. If they agree, good. If they disagree, even better because it was spark a debate. People dont realise its not Colin's job or goal to be right 100% of the time, its to engage an audience for 3hrs every day. @@amadou234

I personally believe they've had it out for Harbaugh for a long time due to his media persona and public popularity and he probably doesn't run in the right circles of the NCAA because he's done well in the pros. He simply doesn't care what any of the other coaches/officials think so now that he's doing even better than top 10 they are bringing the hammer down on him to get him out. If this goes through and they get Michigan for this, Harbaugh may leave for the pros, this might do it. Look at Kansas and Bill Self, or Coach K and Duke, they could get away with almost anything, The FIFA scandal etc, but several Big 10 teams can't get by with anything, even non-sport drama and scandal(IU, M.State, Ohio State, North Carolina) etc.

The relevant NCAA rule is bylaw 11.6.1, which prohibits “off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season).” “employing or paying the expenses of someone else, including professional scouting services, to scout the opponent,”. Marvin Harrison Jr only has six touchdowns on the year. That's it! Roman Wilson has 10 on the year. Of course he has because they allegedly cheat. 🙄

As a pac12 guy I gotta give Utah it's flowers. That's a tough well run program and the way to tell is the poise every player on the roster has and their ability to win games they probably shouldn't. USC and UCLA were in position and couldn't close like Utah did.

6:49 I completely agree with Colin on this. I've been stressing this for quite some time, and finally glad to hear someone in the industry say it. FBS Division 1 college football is the most poorly structured sport in all of organized sports. The ranking system is horrible. Schedules are horrible. The single game "Playoff" is horrible. A committee who decides what teams can play in that single game playoff is horrible. Heisman award has lost its true purpose. NIL, transfer portal, conference realignments, ect have ruined it.The money and tv deals don't help at all either. FCS Division 2 has it set up correctly. The games don't have the big crowd atmosphere, but are very exciting to watch. Especially during the playoffs. True playoffs that make more sense.

On campus scouting is illegal. Its about the integrity of the game. If you let this go, you just open up pandoras box. College should go to helmet audio.
@paulmayer8654

It’s not about the integrity of the game at all. The rule was put in place because little schools complained they couldn’t pay for scouts like that the way big schools can. It has nothing to do with cheating. Nobody considers sign stealing to be cheating.

I’m glad these two are sensible on the Michigan story. It’s a bunch of malarkey that every team is doing and it’s not going to change until college football is governed like the nfl and they get audio in the helmets.

Klatt had a more in depth talk about it on a video today(minute 18 of the heisman/michigan video). Its crazy that we dont have it in college football. Tech has gotten so much cheaper over the years for almost any team it should be pretty cheap

@@jjgreen5206 audio in the helmets would prevent this from happening. Yet no college team has audio in their helmets, which tells you all you need to know. Every team is running their own sign stealing operation and they don’t want to give it up.

And Notre Dame held Marvin Harrison jr to 3 receptions for only 32 yards! Egbuka had only 7 receptions for 96 yards! That Notre Dame defense is fantastic! If Notre Dame didn’t lose to Louisville they’d be at the #5 spot looking in. They held Ohio State the entire game until that last second at the 1 yard line! Sick of Notre Dame not getting credit when it’s due. Notre Dame now at 7-2 obliterated Pittsburgh……. They should be back in the top 10 after that game
