I too first met the man who played the real Col Walsh (Richard Brooks) in the early Law & Order series. Although I only caught them on re-runs recently

I really like this series. There's a lot more character interaction than with CSI, the other large crime investigation show at the time. It's probably the humor that gives it that warmer tone.
