Dafne Keen the amazing young actress who played Laura is the daughter of British Actor Will Keen and Spanish actress María Fernández Ache. Maria was Dafne’s chaperone on set, and in the scene where Laura and Logan have the fierce argument in the car the director encouraged both performers to ad lib. After the scene was filmed Hugh Jackman, who has a daughter of about the same age, felt a bit uncomfortable about shouting and swearing so much at a child so went up to Dafne’s mom to make sure Dafne was okay.. “Don’t worry” said Maria, “she called you a c**t three times in Spanish in that last scene”. 🤣🤣

What makes this hit home for me is the parent/child metaphor between Xavier and Logan. Charles took him in and gave him and home/purpose. Logan now has to return the favor, as we all do, do what is a father figure. It’s a burden, but one we feel we want to repay. It’s not an obligation, but a matter of honor.
@lapelcelery425 ай бұрын
It dovetails nicely with the theme of Logan's blaming himself for putting the people close to him in danger simply by his presence, and his history of viewing himself as a monster. As he says "Bad shit happens to people I care about". He seems to have adopted more responsibility for those people as a form of penance. It's no coincidence that the big threat of the film is his younger self.

Few things in this movie that might seem confusing on a first viewing: 1 - Its implied that Charles had a seizure that killed the majority of the X-Men, likely all of them. 2 - The government basically drugged all the food and water in America to be poisonous to Mutants, slowly killing them and nulling their powers. 3 - Logan's healing factor has been stopping the Adamantium in his body from poisoning him, but because of the drugged food and water, his powers can't stop the Adamantium poisoning. That's what's slowly killing him throughout the movie. 4 - Canada hasn't been effected by the drugged foods and water, which means that Logan could've potentially gotten better and began to heal properly if he had access to uncontaminated food. 5 - Fun fact, the actor for Victor Creed, Logan's brother, was supposed to make an appearance during the casino scene but it was apparently scrapped due to scheduling conflicts with another project.

In this film, yes her foot claws are a result of her gender. In the comics, Laura is made from a damaged dna sample. This lead to 22 failed attempts to make a clone of wolverine. This is why she was called X-23. Laura is older in the comics, early 20s currently, though we've seen her older (future) and younger (flashbacks) Also later Laura gets cloned too, Gabby is about the same age as Laura here but a million times cuter and more silly. She's super sweet, even has a pet wolverine she named Jonathan and gave it a mask to hide it's identity. Gabby though has only 1 claw in each hand and none in her feet. Gabby also can't feel pain at all, which is why she's so sweet unlike the others, but its due to nanotechnology in her blood (wh8ch makes no sense because nerves don't send signals through blood streams but whatever, its a comic book). Point is, in the comics, pure copies are rarely popular. Fans like their "spinoff" or "legacy" characters to look and act different. Like Logan has a biological son in the comics called Daken, he's half Japanese though and has a mohawk. While he does have 3 claws in his arm 2 come from his knuckles like wolverine but one comes from his lower wrist so it looks like a talon of a bird. And you saw Lady Deathstrike in X2 with the finger claws, who also is made from Wolverine dna. So they made a cartoon with a girl clone called X-23, who was a darker-skinned Spanish and had only 2 claws in each hand and 1 in each foot. She was super popular, so the comics announced they'd bring her in. Now they made her super white, with striking blue eyes, but made her story a thousand times more tragic (this movie backstory is way more tame than hers in the comics, like she's so messed up psychologically she tries to murder-suicide herself and Logan when they first meet. Anyways they swapped the race because they wanted Laura to be closer to a genetic sister and actually look like Logan's mother to pull on his heart strings. It was so well done in the comics literally no one complained, as they loved how much emotion her character caused Logan. Logan, her, and Gambit had to go on a huge journey to help her recover and capture who made her... she actually assassinated a presidential candidate and Captain America captured her as a kid assassin, Logan and Daredevil had to convince him she was a victim too, they show him evidence there was a chemical scent that was used to induce her into a psychosis state and the people how sent her after the candidate just gassed the entire room he was in Laura killed everyone in that room, including kids). Yeah, beyond terrible... but it made fans really feel for her and even though Daken. Anyways, if you love the character of Laura I highly suggest you track down her X-23 comic series, its incredible. You'll see why shes a fan favorite. Laura might be genetically his sister in the comics but she was raised 100% as his daughter and that's their relationship in the comics, unlike Daken who for the longest time wanted to kill Wolverine and basically the bad (sometime evil) boy estranged son. Laura even took the name Wolverine when he died to honor him for a bit, though wanting to escape being called X-23, her lab number, and once Wolverine returned for his 5th or 6th permanent death, she took the name Talon. Gabby when by Honeybadger for a bit but then swapped to the name Scout (i vastly perfer Honeybadger though). Now Gabby is being raised by a very much emotionally healed Laura and they got a huge big and little sister vibe. Logan was dead in the comics at the time (every comic character dies for a few years in the real world to drive up sales when they return from the dead, fans call it taking a dirt nap). Since then Logan has returned since then and he Laura and Gabby all went on a family vacation when her returned.

As a kid who first started reading comic books in the mid 80's, the X-Men was my favorite series, and Wolverine was one of my favorite characters. Only a handful of super hero movies have captured what comics books were in any meaningful way, and Logan is one of those finest efforts. First off, Wolverine was always an mature themed character, so having this movie be rated "R" was finally doing this character justice, and it did not go to waste. A movie like this was only possible because you had time over past movies to really know the characters and allow them to become family. This movie perfectly shows that most heroes rarely if ever have a happy ending, and it was all the better for showing that, and not holding anything back, this was a masterpiece.

Possibly one of my favorite details is that *Logan* initially survived the adamantium grafting because of his healing ability. But his healing ability didn't just allow him to survive the procedure. It kept him alive while he had this mass of foreign metallic substance grafted over his bones. Technically it is nothing new. It has likely been poisoning him ever since the procedure. Imagine what that would do to a normal human body. Likely affecting the blood first and foremost. And now, after _all these years,_ the adamantium metal in his body is still poisoning him. The length of time he's had it in his system may also be a major factor. But, as *Calaban* mentions somewhat, his healing ability can barely fight it, _if at all._ *Also…* I absolutely agree with you about *Logan's* bone claws. I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but it was a retcon done sometime in the 90s, I believe. I had stopped regularly reading *X-Men* in the late 80's. Originally his bones were grafted with adamantium and _the claws were added separately.¹_ They were not covering natural bone. Be well! 🙋🏼♂️ ··•●✺●•·· ¹ ─ One reason why I liked the added line in *X2* by Stryker, _"People don't change, Wolverine. You were an animal then. You're an animal now. I just gave you claws."_ Some people wonder if Bryan Singer and the other writers added that line because they too disliked the retcon of bone claws. Who knows? Perhaps they just thought it sounded like a good line (which it is IMO). ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ *EDIT:* I'm uncertain as to what more you expected to see. They completely defeated their pursuers, buried *Logan* and then continued their hike to cross the border. Btw, you also asked why the baddies had to get to the kids before the border - they'd likley have no authority there. They certainly seemed as though they had no permission _into_ the country like the children had. . . Plus, they are a heavily armed paramilitary group (chasing kids). It is unlikely they'd get permission even once they rollled up on the border.

The best way to enjoy X-Men movies is to assume there is no continuity between them, with the exception of the first two. After that, if you focus on consistency or continuity or where/when they exist on some timeline you're just going to have a bad time.

There is a reason this was a superhero movie that was nominated for an Oscar. By the way the movie on the TV they were watching was Shane and the director of this movie said this was the inspiration for Logan because it is about a washed up cowboy who does one last heroic deed to save the town, saves the town but dies in the end.

So I know many here may disagree with me, but I don't know if Adamantium is the entire culprit. Science wise, if Adamantium is indestructible, then it can't poison you because no atoms of the metal are going to invade your body, but that aside. The scientist said they tainted food and drink with an anti-mutant serum, so that probably slowed Wolverines healing ability, which would make the adamantium poisoning a secondary cause. If Wolverine went like, crazy organic farmer, he'd probably live forever, but in this case, he's always had his vices, which only helped to kill him.
@hulkslayer6265 ай бұрын
I think the "So this is what it feels like" was in refrence to what Charles was telling him about having a family. Not about dying. He has experienced death many times before. His mutant abilities may allow him to heal, but he still feels everything.

Logan passed from adamantium poisoning. Since adamantium is one of the world's strongest metals and is extremely heavy, Logan's body is working 24/7/365 to repair damage in his body. Even something as simple as jumping and running will cause tears in his muscles which his body repairs on a daily basis. So his healing factor just gave in causing his aging to speed up and health to decline In one of the comics Magneto extracts the adamantium from his body ( keeping his bone claws ) which causes his healing to accelerate, increase his speed, enhances his senses and becomes more feral.

It references a few things that sound similar to both of the timelines we have seen prior, but also has references that make it have to be in it's own timeline--like the professor saying Logan was hooked on barbiturates when Charles found him. The director/co-writer has also made statements that go along with this.

The real reason Logan was in bad shape in this movie is not because he’s getting older, but it’s because of the stuff that Zander said they put into the food supply. A substance that essentially turns mutants human. Logan’s mutant cells were being destroyed by the substance and his healing factor was unable to hold the Adamantium poisoning at bay anymore.

@martywittenberg14275 ай бұрын
The real reason is that the adamantium was starting to poison him. It had nothing to do with food. You could say due to the poisoning the food had a easier way at getting at his healing factor and turning him human since his healing factor was constantly busy trying to keep the poisoning at bay. It can only heal so much.
@baileycoombs86925 ай бұрын
Hi Jax, the reason why logan is not healing as quick in this is because when he's aged older the adamantium poisoning is killing him, damaging his liver and because he's had the metal in him for so long that is the cause of it. Hence also why the claws were not coming out further than they were.
@VforVictory005 ай бұрын
This movie took inspiration from a comic called "Old Man Logan" in which it's a post-apocalyptic wasteland where most heroes are old or dead and Wolverine is a pacifist because we learn that he gave up fighting because in the past he was tricked by the Super villain Mysterio into believing everyone in the X-Men mansion was super villain and Wolverine killed all of them.

Wolverine as we deserved to see him. Rated R with a proper Berserker Mode moment, which is an ability of his we didn't see on screen too often. Finally saw X-23, which he does consider his daughter. Keep in mind this movie is based off Old Man Logan, which is _not_ the main universe. It's an au with most of the characters of Marvel either dead or old, like old Daredevil and Hawkeye, etc. In the main continuity, adamantium _is_ poisoning him, but only to the point that his healing is not as fast as it was before the adamantium, and we didn't know that wasn't a natural part of his physiology until a few decades after his introduction in The Incredible Hulk #180 in 1973. So what you see in the first few movies is what his "slower" healing looks like, and even then he's only like 3rd or 4th fastest healing. It's why Deadpool in spite of getting his powers from Wolverine is a faster healer. It's funny you mention Hulk because there is a lot of similarities and connections between the two. Of course Wolverine again was introduced in a Hulk comic, but their anger with hulking out vs Berserker Mode and their healing factors are also often parralleled. Some of the most iconic hero on hero fights were between those two, and what's widely considered the most iconic cover art in the history of comic books was Hulk's reflection in Wolverine's claws. Watch Deadpool 2 directly next, it's proper order but also with recent movies coming out you may be spoiled incidentally by comments.

idk if it's late or anyone will read this or its already said.. but I think one of the beautiful parts of this movie was back in The Wolverine (2013) , yukio told logan that he'll die with "on his back , blood everywhere and you have your own heart in your hand.. it's not beating" supposedly reference the upcoming time in that movie only where he takes own that bot from his heart which was slowing down his powers. In more focus , going with that yukio was "always right" , in logan he also died on his back stabbed with that branch.. blood everywhere with his heart in his hand.. holding his daughter and probably the last person he cared about about. Might be intentional , might be one of worlds beautiful ways of going but I think it was a beautiful thing to ponder , that yukio was right but in the different way and he was holding his heart in his heart , but it wasn't actually his heart but actually his daughter which he cared the world for but couldn't express. Edit : well you noticed it already, impressive actually but fuck me 😂

In the comics, unlike the movie version, Wolverine tries his best to defend X Mansion from “villains” infiltrated, in which it was led by Mysterio. Upon arriving in the mansion, Wolverine, enraged for losing his teammates, attempted to kill them all, with exception of one of the rogue gallery, whom Wolverine catechised in hopes of finding all X Men teammates. Not giving answers from the “villains”, Wolverine promptly and brutally killed him, not before realizing about Mysterio’s expedients. Much to his shock and horror, Wolverine terrifyingly looked into his eyes, seeing all the “villains” that he killed were actually his X Men teammates due to under Mysterio’s influence and him creating an illusions. That’s the reason why Wolverine is the only one of X Men member left. Unlike the comics, in the film version, I really like the fact Charles Xavier had all of sudden, suffered from Alzheimer’s brain, causing his mind to be deteriorated and paralysing all the civilians, including several members of the X Men in the Westchester, thus disbanding The X Men. Wolverine and Caliban are the only ones left to be Charles’s caretakers in the case Charles’s brain had triggering his “seizure abilities” As for the mutants, Alkali Transigen is pharmaceutical company that occurs they genetically created their own mutants in hopes of turning them into their soldiers and to do their malfeasance. Unbeknownst to them and X Men and new mutants, they developed a mutant-supressing drug into various food products to supress the X-Gene in humans with the potential to become mutants, effetively preventing new mutant births from happening. Alkali Transigen in the fact, is one of the conglomeration company called Essex Corporation which you may have seen in the post credits from X Men Apocalypse, is owned and founded by Nathaniel Essex who strongly deep hatred of mutants and even supervillain known as Mr. Sinister (in the comics) It’s too bad that he won’t appear in the Logan film. Jax, don’t worry about them. As for the new mutants from the ending scene, With the death of Zandar Rice and Donald Pierce, the government finally demobolized the organization, shutting down the company and letting all the new mutants to be born in the future which means Wolverine’s death is not in vain.

Supplementary fun fact is when mutants have children naturally, the child has a chance to become stronger than their parents combined. The Grey-Summer line is infamous for creating crazy strong mutants seemingly for no reason. They're all monstrous apocalyptic level strength. They're usually only held back by their imagination or outside circumstances like a debilitating disease. Logan's other kid in the comics is named Daken. And his evolved mutation is producing pheromones that makes people very suggestible... And an extra claw in his forearm. He has a complex about being seen as the lesser Logan kid to Laura.

The film she quotes that they watched earlier is Shane (1953). In the film a world weary gunslinger trying to escape his past helps a widow and her young son defend their home from men who want to take her land. The story seems cliché today but Shane was one of the early films to introduce that trope. In the film the son idolizes Shane's life as a gunslinger while Shane tries to discourage the boy from a life of violence. Shane gives the speech Laura quotes, after the final fight, severely wounded he rides into the sunset while slumped over in his saddle. To this dat film scholar debate whether or not he dies as he ride off. So that scene she quotes has a much deeper relevance if you know the details of Shane.
