The Nam interview was fun. I like when Mark mentioned that the SM talent scouts (among the best in the world imo) were apparently not as interested in his singing as he had hoped. “Yo” at the end of a sentence indicates formal/polite speech, like to an elder or a stranger. There are many levels of formal/informal speech in Korean, probably one of the reasons why I’ve been less than eager to learn it. 🤣 By all means, watch the 127 interview with Jonathan: he was born in the Congo, but raised in Korea, so he’s fluent in the language. Make sure to watch the full interview on Diggle: Haechan co-hosted, and Johhny, Doyoung, and Jungwoo were the guests. It’s hilarious.

@kittikovacs90935 ай бұрын
exactly :D sometimes I cant even express myself properly in my native language, because an English phrase just fits better for that given situation... and we also dont translate in our brain as we talk in that foreign language. After a while it just... comes to you the way your native language does :D

The tiktok that I believe Mark is referring to is for Eric's song "House on a Hill," which was referenced in the previous Eric Nam Vs. NCT video you watched. That's why Mark met Eric at the studio to film it because it was Eric's song.

some foreign idols usually have a korean name so it's easier for the koreans to pronounce it, but it's not the same as stage name tho, it's exactly like when foreigners pick a name from the country they're in! idols also have names for other languages, jisung's english name is andy for example bcs people that don't have contact with the korean language wouldn't know how to pronounce his name, and it's not official but in Brasil mark is called marcos cause it's easier for us

2:26 Ohh so like korean name is exactly what it sounds like, mark lee is his like stage/foreign name which he basically always uses, a few of the nct members have like the stage/foreign names like Mark Lee = Lee Min Hyung Lee Haechan = Lee Dong Hyuck Kim Doyoung = Kim Dong Young Xiaojun = Xiao De Jun Hendery = Wong Kun Hang Johnny Suh/Seo = Seo/Suh Yeong H Winwin = Dong Si Cheng And Jaehyun actually changed his name like officially from Jeong Jaehyun to Jeong Yoon Oh He uses Jaehyun as a stage name though!!

All my language teachers have said that you really know a language once you stop translating in your head. The translating really slows you down and you are not thinking through things that much in a language you speak. It simply means what it means. And brain scans of people who are multi-lingual shows that each language is not stored in a separate region of your brain. It's just all in there as one big melange of language. But that has more to do with when you learn a language rather than how many languages you speak. If you learn more than one language when you are young it all goes via the same natural learning process that all children use. It's only adult learners who start to compartmentalise. But it gets far easier once you have two languages down and start on a 3rd or 4th (in my experience) although you do mix them up like crazy. I feel for my English students though, English is a difficult language to learn. It doesn't have consistent rules or pronunciation and I tell them that it's just hard all the time :) I find Korean to be very logical and the writing system is genius.

Toilet gun or we called "BIDET", is common in Southeast Asia. Countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Ten's home country, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, etc. usually use a bidet in each toilet or the simplest is a water tank and there is a kind of basin for scooping up water to clean the remaining our pee or poop with water. i'am from Southeast Asia

15:46 I think its different for everybody, but in my case I'm half mexican and half american living in México, my first language was spanish and everyone around me speaks spanish But I also grew up speaking english because my dad didn't know spanish at the time My brain is a combination of both languages and if the person I'm talking to speaks both languages too, I just let it out like that (cause they can understand what I'm saying anyways) but if the person only speaks one, I have to translate as I'm talking and that's hard sometimes because I forget words in both languages 😂 And reading, I always involuntarily translate to the other language in my head, no matter if it's English or Spanish

I speak three languages but English is my first. After a while I was able to think in the other two because their grammar was similar to English in many ways, though sometimes I would still have to fall back on n English when the conversation got really deep or colloquial (local slang and dialects). But I'm learning Korean now and It's NOT like English grammatically so I'm always having to fall back and find some sort of English equivalent that helps me put the pieces together. Not sure I will ever be able to flow like I can in French and Spanish.
@ethanoloh_5 ай бұрын
yeah korean seems VERY hard to learn, isnt the sentence structure like SOV or "I swimming like" instead of "I like swimming" seems really hard imo
@wisewumman5 ай бұрын
@ethanoloh_ That's right. It's kind of "subject object verb," and then there are the subject and object markers and different endings based on whether you're being formal or informal...lots to learn. But reading Hangeul isn't as hard as I expected. That was a nice surprise.
@lulashepard32535 ай бұрын
@@wisewumman reading Hangeul is relatively easy. I taught myself the alphabet in an hour and half without a textbook or lessons. Listening to it, on the other hand, can be tough. A lot of times I need to read the Korean(!) captions in order to get a sense of what is being said. 😂

15:57 damn i don't know what's happenening inside my head most of the time EXACTLY because of it, i speak 4 languages, but do not live in my home country and do most of my work in another language too, so if i'm working i can keep my thoughts straight on one langauge at time but the rest of my day its just complete mess when your brain creates sentences with random stuff, chaotic grammar and strange combination of the same words in different langauges. but then you open your mouth and everything sounds pretty logical and clear haha and yeah if you're fluent enough, ig you don't really translate??? everything in your mind, just understand it as it is, and the same works in reverse, you don't think about smth in your native language and then translate it, no, just think in the language you need to use from the begining haha sorry for yapping lol, i love discussing how bi/multilingual brain works
