For the hockey theme there are a couple of reasons going around. The first is that there was a very popular Korean drama in the 90s that featured hockey and second is that the Mighty Ducks movies were very popular in the 90s. The dance is similar to what 90s KPop groups did.

Yeah you're right, its based on Mighty Ducks (1992). It was popular in the 90s, even here in latinamerica and we don't play hockey either lol.
