"Welcome aboard the SPRINTER. Passengers must have a valid ticket in their possession at all times." The SPRINTER is possibly the best way to take a longer trip to Downtown San Diego, with transfers to MTS at Escondido. Not to mention that the entire vehicle sounds like a bus transmission makes it even better. Add that with all the railfan spots along the line and you have a perfect commuter rail train (DMU).

Interesting to hear the passenger announcements not sounding like the typical American English and the fact that a modern light rail system is single track and unelectrified. Still, I'm curious how the ride is. Thanks for sharing your experience ;)
@rendezvous659 жыл бұрын
+hyungwoo0312 I ride the Sprinter to school and the ride quality is excellent. This system uses concrete rail ties and the rails joints are spaced farther which helps. There are plans to fully double track the system, so it allow for additional frequency and an express service which would use a freight only track that bypasses my university, that would save 8 to 10 minutes over the standard Sprinter commute of 53 minutes.

It's a British person speaking on the announcer. Saw a video about it in detail on PIKO America. It's what Siemens does is factory fit on board sound equipment from Europe.

Light rail? in Europe that would be a typical rural branch line train 😅

I only got to ride the sprinter once! If I ever get back to oceanside?!! I'm gonna make it a point to ride more often.

yall seen the freight train that runs on the tracks at night? pretty cool

I'm always surprised how L O U D the freight train horn is compared to the Sprinter. Can hear it miles away; the fact it's pretty quiet by then helps.

FYI "P" on the hillside behind the college is PALOMAR college. Been there for years, also behind CAL STATE SAN MARCOS would have a brush fire the following May of 2014, I lived a quarter of a mile from the fire and had to get out !

I helped clean up the "P" a few years ago with the Hiking Club at Palomar. Love taking the Sprinter.. especially to the beach!

I hear they are thinking of eventually replacing these trains with FRA compliant ones as parts cannot be easily obtained, and vendors want NCTD to fund future replacements. Some of the parts have not been made in years and need to be re engineered.
@SBRV427 Жыл бұрын
You sure? There are hundreds of these DMUs running in Germany, I'd guess the parts are more or less the same.
@ex101jcАй бұрын
@@SBRV427also other parts of Europe like Austria or Czechia. Maybe however they want to have replacement parts made in the US. That could be difficult since I don‘t know if there are any other lines running Desiros in the entire US 😅

It's factory fitted by Siemens themselves, they used someone who speaks english which so happens to be a British person.

@@AussieGunzel I think it would be quite fascinating to hear that on US passenger railroad agencies. Some TTS voices might be good like Brian from IVONA, Bridget and Hugh from NeoSpeech, Graham and Peter from Acapela and Catherine and Simon from Oddcast. Some of the stops on East Midlands Railway use Acapela Rachel - South Western Railway did the same with the Siemens Desiro 707 until they were transferred to Southeastern. Greater Anglia, London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway now use IVONA Amy as their platform voice which replaced ATOS Anne.

The sound these trains make remind me of the branch line local on the line from Zirndorf to Fuerth Bavaria in the mid 1970's!

Goal is to eventually try and get a replacement in the next 5 to 10 years, possibly earlier, despite these cars having a 27 year life span.

@@anonymoussdmtsemployee7770 NCTD hired DB to explore their ZE Train options for the sprinter. I believe NCTD also wants a FRA compliant trainset, but they also want to improve the Sprinter infrastructure such as PTC and double tracking so that they can run 15 minute frequencies.

These little DMU trains are basically busses on rails. They are driven by an engine connected to a torque converter and gear box, just like a road bus.
