In Burnaby, B.C., NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh speaks to the media about the findings in the foreign interference commission’s final report.
The report concludes that despite attempts of interference by foreign actors, Canada’s “democratic institutions have remained robust.” The report highlights that although there was “evidence of some concerning behaviour” among politicians, the findings state there is “no evidence of traitors in Parliament.” Justice Hogue outlines 51 recommendations for addressing foreign meddling, including fighting disinformation, intelligence sharing, the regulation of political parties, among other measures.
Singh reiterates his call for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to obtain the necessary security clearance to be briefed on classified national security information. The NDP leader takes questions on reports that the federal government is planning pandemic-level relief for workers and businesses if U.S. President Donald Trump moves forward with his threat to impose 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian imports.
