Isn't it interesting how social distancing makes Strauss sound better? This is the finest version I've come across on KZbin. Thank you so much!! Perhaps the musicians were moved by the tragic state of the world.

Absolutely wonderful! I learned this music listening to Norwegian Chamber Orchestras version, over and over, also a very good interpretation. So when I came to this I was well prepared. The versions differs a litttle, for example in tempo. But this is also an amazing and thrilling performance. Thank you so much!

This is a beautiful performance. Jeremy Eichler's new book, "Time's Echo" includes a long section on Strauss and describes how the piece came to be written with reference to Goethe's poem "Niemand wird sich selver knennen" (No one will ever know himself), its motif from the Eroica. etc. The book is absolutely superb.

Compelling performance, completely absorbing and on the cusp of the COP 26 Conference in Glasgow a moment of calm and reflection. The intensity of the musicians added significantly to the overall impact.

Travelled to Germany and visited Wuzburg early this year. There's a model of 1945's Wuzburg city at Fortress Marienberg museum. When I looked at it I could hear music from Metamorphosen.

First heard this at age 16 on the radio after having read about the piece. I knew immediately this was Metamophosen based on the written description. When the radio announcer said, "And that was Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, I thought in triumph: "I knew it!!"
