So excellent to hear accurate execution of the repeated 16th notes - with no fluffling - in the 3rd movement. And I actually really like the little cadenza. Nicely done!

Oh yes, from start to finish this "unconventional" concerto hits the spot. Wonderful understanding of tempi and dynamic throughout, from both soloist and orchestra. It's a masterpiece alright, and should be featured more in today's concert halls.

This has been one of my favorite concertos since a was a young teenager. My go to recording then was the early 60's Columbia recording with Andre Previn and Andre Kostelanetz. Previn proved his chops as a jazz pianist with his Andre Previn trio, so he was a natural choice for this recording. I see that Frank Dupree also had his own jazz trio and it shows in this great performance. It seems that jazz pianists instinctively understand this music. Also, a shout out to the trumpet player in the 2nd movement solo. Gershwin said when he wrote this, he envisioned a trumpet player on a hot summer night sitting on the fire escape of his NY apartment. One definitely gets that feeling here, and so well played by the trumpet soloist. Bravo to all for a great performance. By the way, you can find the Previn recording here on KZbin, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZSvmaF4h6ZkbLc

Why is the trumpet being played into a bag???
@NDRKlassik9 ай бұрын
Gershwin writes in the score that he wants a "felt crown" for the trumpet. So in the end, basically a bowler hat made of felt. Since it looks strange, but the sound should still remain, our solo trumpeter Stefan Schultz decided on the version with the bag. 😊🎺🎶 #Gershwin #TrompeteSolo #StefanSchultz

I have been listening to Previn’s performance. Also very virtuoze,… but a more classic performance very perfect,… but lesser emotions,… lesser jazzy,… This pianist take’s his time more dynamic’s ect!
