Jason, Thanks for this very good video. I searched all over the NDS Web Site, Google, Amazon & others & i finally found your video that explains exactly what I was thinking & planning on doing. Its amazing that every video shows the 4" pipes are installed into the adapters without knocking out the 3" adapter, which as you stated, defeats the purpose of using the 4". Thanks again foe taking the time on this video!

Dude! This was exactly what I needed... another video suggested silicon around each of the adapters, and the hose, but didn't mention the knock outs. You just solved my problem, thanks!

Thank You X 2. You are bolder than I am. I saw the knockout arrows but it wasn't clear to me either & I didn't want to damage the basin & throw > $40.00 down the drain so to speak. (I bought a 9") Also, I'm glad I watched the video all the way through because I was placing the plugged adapter on the outside of the basin. Thank You again.

Good video - NDS needs to put some better documentation in these things so people can understand how to knock out the 3" portion if using 4" corrugated pipe, Silicone sealer on all connections seems to make them air tight and assist with combatting root infestation!

I agree there is not a lot of detailed info. Thanks for posting. I'd say 9 x 1/4" holes is overkill. However using some landscape fabric to line your pit will help. With many large holes and light rain you may end up just saturating ground verses filling the basin and having it convey away from the basin. I'd say 4 x 1/8" is plenty. If it ever gets blocked you can poke it with a rod or drill bit.... The idea is for water to drain away slowly not be too free flowing to the gravel under the box. Just my opinion. Cheers. (PS installing two basins today)
@mikej15703 жыл бұрын
I would like to see theses holes 1/4 or 1/8 inch holes on bottom work after the first rain. Over time, stone or no stone fabric or no fabric underneath it will clog with dirt and debris trying to drain out the tiny wholes. I think it will require weekly "Poking" of the holes to get the water to completely drain out.
@gmcjetpilot3 жыл бұрын
@@mikej1570 Fact is the 1" of standing water if not absorbed by ground will evaporate, no big deal. The idea in theory is have lots of rock under basin drain through holes in bottom, so water will fill the air voids between rocks under basin and seep into dirt. If the soil is permeable or perk-able water will go away as ground absorbs it. Clay like I have not so much, but given enough time water will flow. Other wise what doesn't drain will sit in there. It might be best to fill bottom of basin with concrete so most water exits the drain pipe. However it does not bother me some water sits in basin. We don't have mosquito issue here...

I installed everything the same with the exception of the second drain adapter and the plug. I did not want to sacrifice the catchment volume, so I placed it on the outside of the catch basin. I used some OSI gutter sealant that was laying around to adhere the plug to the drain adapter. By doing it this way, aside from the sealant, when you pack the trench with aggregate, that should serve as an additional force to hold the cap in place. The pressure from a 12" full catch basin is not enough to push the cap, sealant and aggregate; however, over time, the water and dirt on the outside of the catchment may eventually push your plug *in*. I dunno. Time will tell.

Great video ! However, now that this is installed and working can you please report back to see if your 9 - 1/4 inch holes on the bottom of box are completely clogged. I am curios to see if holes on bottom with stone or fabric or whatever would drain the residual water in the box. I would imagine that the small holes would clog after 1st rain with dirt and yard debris.. But I am VERY COURIOUS... Again THANKS for VIDEO VERY NICELY DONE!
@jjesseph3 жыл бұрын
Everything is working well. In the end, I decided to line the bottom of the hole with landscape fabric and then just fill it with rocks and then set the box on top of the rocks. It’s draining well. I have very hard clay soil where I live so the water doesn’t drain into the soil easily, if I had more permeable soil I might drill fewer or smaller holes. Don’t put fabric on top of the rocks as debris pretty easily clogs the holes and prevents draining.

Question. Is water supposed to leak out the sides of the holes where you put the pipe and the cap? The basin I have leaks water out of the sides when the pipe is in

Jason, I need to knock out one of the sides for a 3rd 4” pipe. I’ve taken a hammer to it around the outline but the knockout won’t budge. Can you tell me how to knockout a side opening? Thank you.
@jasonjesseph64244 жыл бұрын
Sorry Dave, I haven’t worked with a three/four sided version yet. From what I’ve seen I believe you would cut it out. Might want to drop a note to NDS and see what they say.

It's insane that all of these water catch basins have multiple huge precut holes in them that will leak. Just give me a solid basin with 1 or 2 pipe adapters and let me drill the holes for them with a hole saw where I see fit.
@peterbergeris65102 жыл бұрын
What you can do is hook up your pipe to the basin and then to a T fitting .
@ReefMimic4 жыл бұрын

How do you keep the pipe from coming out and sealing ???
@jasonjesseph64242 жыл бұрын
When you get it all put together and in the ground just cut the hose a tiny smidge longer and the pressure pushing into the box will keep it in place. It's in the dirt so no need to seal it.
