Manipur Standoff Between Assam Rifles Armoured Vehicle And Suspected Insurgents

Videos of a tense stand-off between the Assam Rifles and a group of armed men in Manipur's border town Moreh have emerged on social media, raising questions over how a few armed men stopped the security forces from moving around in the town just a stone's throw away from conflict-hit Myanmar. The incident happened on January 17, the day two Manipur Police commandos were killed in action while returning fire at "Kuki insurgents". A day after the gunfight, Manipur Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh had told reporters that "numerous Kuki militants started firing at commando posts in three locations", and the commandos being at a lower elevation were "sitting ducks".

It’s easy to put up a video, point fingers and demonise an entire community without any background context. This happens after, a kuki women was bulldozed to death by the AR while meitei state forces burns down schools and houses of the native kukis villagers. About the state forces, it is well known that, the state forces / manipur police are only meiteis. In fact, there is among them the valley Insurgent groups and the arambai tengol who camouflage themselves in police uniform. Moreh (tengoupal district) being the tribal land, the valley meiteis has no reason or whatsoever to be in moreh (if not, to loots, burn & destroy the properties of the villagers). People who are not at the ground reality should understand that, eventhough the kukis has not been allowed to administers themselves, there is now a complete divide between the hills & the valley - politically, ethnically and so on. And the volunteers here are only defending their villages and their family from the meiteis forces, and unfortunately the AR lost the trust of the people here, after the bulldozing incident.

Similiar stand offs have happened between Meiteis and Army.. You have Selective Amnesia.. It may be pointed out that: 1. Manipur Police Commandos, Arambai Tenggol and UnLF cadres mixed had taken shooting positions opposite to Assam Rifles at Ichak Phugakchao last year.. And were trigger ready.. 2. Similar thing happened at Sanjenthong Bridge. 3. Meitei Militants and Police Commandos had altercations with Central Forces because Meiteis wanted to cross the Buffer Zone somewhere near Ccpur border.. -- not to mention the shooting incident on Feb 13 as Pangei Mptc was looted, where in Central Forces had to shoot to keep Meitei Looters at bay...

It’s easy to put up a video, point fingers and demonise an entire community without any background context. This happens after, a kuki women was bulldozed to death by the AR while meitei state forces burns down schools and houses of the native kukis villagers. About the state forces, it is well known that, the state forces / manipur police are only meiteis. In fact, there is among them the valley Insurgent groups and the arambai tengol who camouflage themselves in police uniform. Moreh (tengoupal district) being the tribal land, the valley meiteis has no reason or whatsoever to be in moreh (if not, to loots, burn & destroy the properties of the villagers). People who are not at the ground reality should understand that, eventhough the kukis has not been allowed to administers themselves, there is now a complete divide between the hills & the valley - politically, ethnically and so on. And the volunteers here are only defending their villages and their family from the meiteis forces, and unfortunately the AR lost the trust of the people here, after the bulldozing incident.

FYI...they are not Kuki militants or insurgents provoking the army...it's the Kuki Village Volunteers of Moreh who are protecting their ancestral lands against the state sponsored Arambai Tenggol and state commandos who always come to attack Kuki-Zo people in the tribal hills!!

I'm from around that region. They are village defence volunteers. They didn't attack the AR's BMPV Casspir but would attack with all they got should they are provoked or the AR continue their way due to one main reason: the Army/AR/paramilitary forces sheltered and supported the State forces because the villagers there won't attack central forces. This led to the deaths of a dozen of Kuki-Zo volunteers, and civilians combined. So they stopped all central forces entering deep into the tribal villages. In short, the people learnt their lesson hence. You can't prosecute people for defending themselves now, can you‽

As the situation in Manipur since 3 May 2023 where all Kukis were chased away from Imphal valley and the meiteis too left Kuki areas from Hills. Assam Rifles, Central Forces were actively involved in evacuation of civilians from one place to another. Separation was made like the India-Pakistan partition. Now, why was the AR actively involved in the protection of Meitei in Moreh, a Kuki area?? That invites more disputes and battles between the meitei-kuki clash.

This type of situation where local community are compelled to lift arms is the result of Central forces inability to check the state forces because of laws...Manipur state forces are already compromised with provided valid ID to militants and volunteers which result in not acting as a cop but some militants in police uniform... Trails of destruction and theft followed the police commandos... Let Meitei police commandos leave Moreh and everything will be normal...the Assam Rifles and district police is enough force to maintain law and order
