True! I too am very upset about the conversion allegations, because I too was born to a Hindu family , father Gujrati Lohana, biological mother Italian, lived my step mom Gujrati Hindu . I am a Gujrati Lohana Catholic . I embraced Lord Jesus, my husband a Gujrati Lohana and I were married according to Hindu rituals. But he embraced Christianity on his own his experience how Lord Jesus touched him was his personal. So Modi Bhai , please do not mislead people by saying that we are converted by force .. I would love to have an open debate on this. Faith is very personal and every individual is free to choose and embrace. @Unknown Indian what most Hindus don't understand about conversion to Christianity doesn't work like Muslim conversion. Just say 3 words and you are converted. It is a spiritual experience. Its reveals itself so strongly that it leaves no reason to turn back. I was an orthodox Hindu for 23 years and never ever thought that I will ever be anything but Hindu. Even today my blood is Hindu and will always be and I love Hinduism as much as I loved it before but my spirit is with Christ because I have seen him and can't unsee him. Even though as a Hindu Christianity was an utter nonsense to me but my soul turned to Christianity and you will never understand it until you experience it yourself. And no I didn't know any Christian before I converted or I had no Christian influence. We Indians need to understand that Christianity is opposite of Islam even though we believe in same God. That's why Muslims kill so many Christians for example you just saw in Sri Lanka. Not a single verse in the new testament is negative or teach hate at all. The same thing Muslims say but believe me they are lying. They are nothing like us. That's why you will never hear any Christian causing any problems in India ever since independence. Because they have been taught to love everyone like they love themselves. The basic principle of Christianity is that no one can be converted to Christianity if they haven't accepted Christ with their own heart and soul. Mere words mean nothing. I knew Hinduism and I believe its one of the most amazing religion in the world but my friend Christians are no threat to Hindus and never will be because the teachings or bible are opposite of Islam. That's why no Christian or hindu is a terrorist. Our religion teach us peace. And yes, its not the dalits and poors who people claim that they have been brainwashed. I am a PhD student and currently studying in New Zealand and I know fully well what I have done. Remember that for someone to chose a different religion comes with a lot of implications and if people are ready to risk everything for it then they have already thought about and still decided to sacrifice everything to chose that religion. Also are you still living in the third century? Do you know a single person who have been converted by force? We are in 2019 and no one is forcing anyone.

Benedict Joseph We have done everything to eradicate casteism in India. Our constitution is written by Dr Ambedkar who was from lower caste. Our former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was from a lower caste. Current President Mr Kovind belongs to a lower caste. Reservation of jobs and seats in colleges and institutes has improved the standard of living of downtrodden. The current issue is of religion. Why should India alone be a secular country if none of the Muslim countries and so many western countries are founded on religion. Non Hindus in India should get the same treatment that Hindus get in those countries. Now coming to Ghai-Wapsi, those whose ancestors were once Hindus are coming back to their roots. This does not amount to conversion.

Culture does not consist of religion alone, and certainly not of any one religion (unless you come from a homogeneous country). So to change one attribute should not matter so much and it does not mean you are leaving your culture. The reason why it's a big deal is because of people's arrogance in intervening in other's lives (which leads to taking people's lives, violence, threats and abuse). It is more legitimate when family members are concerned but why bother about someone's conversion anyway? It is because the truth is a narrow one, not as all encompassing as Hinduism claims it to be. Hindus claim to have no problem with other religions, visiting their places of worship or praying to their god(/s) but make a ruckus about a formal conversion. @anish b That's because a major part of our country only has a one sided and a distorted view on conversion, and the purpose of this interview was to show that the converts did it because they wanted to, and not because they were forced to. This interview wasn't meant to cover everything because of the focus it chose, and I think it's fair because this aspect of reality is almost always sidelined and people with very narrow minded and often misinformed opinions are the ones who tend to hog the mic. It's refreshing to see this side of the story for once, and it's sad that it angers people. With all due respect, it's not like the people interviewed here spoke out of hate. They only spoke of their realities and reasons to convert. Those interviewed here have spoken only out of love, and I don't see why that is a problem.
