Bengaluru Gets Dedicated Bus Lanes To Cut Down Commute Time

Bengaluru is known for its slow traffic - but most commuters are reluctant to give up the use of their private transport. In a bid to make taking the bus more attractive - the city is trying out a dedicated bus lane in one of the busiest areas - the Outer Ring Road. Thousands of Bengalureans work and commute through this road - one of the most choked areas in a city notorious for its traffic. A dedicated bus lane was introduced here some weeks ago, that has cut the time taken for the bus journey. But not everybody using the road knows about it, and an awareness event was held to highlight the change.

First step is to actively spread awareness about the bus lanes to the general public for at least 6 months. Also spread awareness that after a set date, any vehicle entering the bus lane other than authorised vehicles would be heavily fined Next step is to place traffic cameras all along the bus lanes, fine any vehicle that either crosses into the bus lane or even crosses the yellow lines. The only way people will follow the rules is when you threaten their wallets. The bigger and more expensive the vehicle, the heavier the fine.

Cities like Pune and Banglore need multi-level roads, atleast 3 levels, one for one side, second for opposite side and the bottom level for casual local traffic. I hope the people awaken and shake their politicians to build multi-level roads, end to end.
@rc2k22
@rc2k22 4 жыл бұрын
@PRAKHAR AWASTHI It can't be done in one go, you have to do it in phases. Each city is divided into hubs/depots of buses. They can pick up one or two routes and see rhe difference, which will motivate them for the next one. People will put pressure on the politicians for taking up next routes and so on... Today most of the tax payers money goes waste in the form of bribery and corruption and this money can be diverted. People must put pressure on the politicians for transperancy. If there is a will, there is a way.

we should actually just throw people in different areas of india and make them develop it, all pigs crowding in one or 2 cities then demanding for multi level roads while the rest of india doesnt even have dedicated bus lane huh

@@gautamraj6911 actually what you said is right. Different places should be developed. Should not fit everything in one place like Bengaluru, Pune. Its really sad that lack of critical infrastructure has resorted officials to use jugaad. They had planned for the dedicated bus lanes, they scrapped that. The metro construction is still at nascent stage. Despite road tax being one of the highest in the country, the infrastructure suffers as all the tax goes for appeasement of the politician vote base. Government after government, they plan a project, scrap the old one and cycle goes on without completing anything. I dont think many of the people, who are praising it and want it implemented have been in Bengaluru. Most of the cities apart from ours already has an alternate mode such as metro, local trains, trams,etc. Many of them do not have commute more than 5 kms. Bengaluru is so spread out, there is no infrastructure here that has matched it. The extensive bus network is not able to cope pressure of the demand for transportation, which I am sure causes the loss of productivity, if calculated, in the billions. I sympathize with those who say this is better than nothing. Please don't lose hope. We must demand for better infrastructure, including roads, metro, dedicated bus lanes(not like these but something like elevated bus lanes) ,etc. asap. The planners should decide something that comes sooner and covers more area, maybe a hybrid of these may work

This has failed big time in pune... And caused huge traffic where we never saw it before.. However it was big construction in these areas to make seperate lane divider and bus stops which made other lane narrower causing congestion and traffic.. if we dont block other lanes due to construction etc then it might go well ... e.g. Nagar Road pune

Metro consteuction and road renovations in major higgways has caused congesstions . No of Cabs, 2 wheelers and private cars and autos has increased 10 times in the last 10yrs which leads to more vehicle on the road. Poor lane descipline is also a mojor cause for traffic in bangalore. So this buss lane is just a bandaid more needs to be done to improve commute in bangalore.
