I’m lucky that I can get out there during the week when it’s usually quiet. It was packed that first weekend after the flood receded, a few days after I filmed this video. I waited a couple weeks to post a vid but a few other guys posted vids as well, and about a half dozen people posted muskie pics with the dam behind them on local social media pages all on that first weekend. It was packed there for about a month straight after that where even if I got there at first light someone was already posted up in that corner. And people wonder why I hold on to footage and don’t name locations lol.

@@oldschoolhawking8191 Yeah I try not to make it too easy to find me but there’s plenty of people that know the spots I fish. If I post a video Saturday morning I’m probably not going back to that spot for a week or two because I know there’s gonna be several people fishing it. I had one guy pull up and start chewing me out last year saying I was ruining his river for sportsmen by posting vids and a he’d seen plates from three different states there. I guess out of staters don’t count as sportsmen lol. I’d been on that stretch about a half dozen times already that season and hadn’t seen a single other person out there.

I haven't compared screenshots of each fish but I wouldn't be surprised if one or two were caught twice. There are a lot of muskie there though so I wouldn't be surprised if they were all different either. They stocked a bunch of yearling muskie in the lake above the dam about 8 years ago, that's why there's so many of them and they're all about the same size. It was just one of those times of year where they were probably following the walleye migration upstream, or there was an abundance of other type of fish up there to feed on where the muskie were stacked up there. Most of the time they're spread out a little more farther downstream.

they all have that same scaled area wound. i wonder if it is because they are coming down from the dam and that's where they are having to wiggle to under the release gates or trying to go up and that's where the flow rate is too great that they can't get past because the thrust power is too far reduced at that point in their tails not being able to go thru at that point due to the extreme limitation of tail range of motion being 50-30% where they need it in the direct flow and not enough out of the burst spray in thrust power to shimmy thru on their sides where they are thinnest? thanks for the video this is one to point out at the state fish and game HQ office in st.paul next time i am down there this spring about dam gate opening width
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler Жыл бұрын
Those were all spawn wounds. They bite at each other and can get pretty violent during the mating ritual and this was maybe a few weeks after spawn. I see it every spring, almost all the big ones I catch have those wounds. You won’t see any beat up looking muskie early season, then spawn happens and it looks like they tumbled over the dam that’s actually what I thought it was at first too, but by mid to late summer they’re all healed up and you don’t really see any beat up looking fish again until post spawn next year.

@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler Жыл бұрын
I like that SLX DC because it casts farther than any other reel I own and I can get my lure a little bit closer to the opposite bank. I picked up two of them a couple years ago and honestly they kind of turned me off to Shimano. The brake system is great but both reels developed gear noise within a month or two and they sound like cheap Walmart reels now. Cleaning and grease didn’t help and someone said it’s common with the Shimano gears and the only fix is replacing them. I’ve pretty much dedicated that reel to using it at this spot where the roar of the water drowns out the gear noise and it doesn’t bug me as much.
@peterwilly9240
@peterwilly9240 Жыл бұрын
@@ndyakangler yeah the slx typically has worse gear quality but I have used the bantam A since it just got released and it's perfectly silent and it casts great. I don't like DC reels too much but I do own the metanium DC and the bantam does cast just as well as it with a heavier lure. I have it on a 7'4 heavy st croix legend tournament and it throws the megaBass I-Slides extremely far, I would say around 40-50 yards with braid

Like to say thanks to fish and wildlife and federal government for regulating fishing. If we didn’t have the laws there wouldn’t be any fish to catch. One person on a day like this could put a real hurt on the population if they kept all these fish. It’s strange how other countries don’t realize you can’t keep every fish or they will all be gone. In other countries there is a “I better keep it cause the other Guy will just take it.” Mentality it seems. And I know they need food. But we are blessed for sport in the USA. It’s expensive to fish but we all can fish if we want and keep a reasonable number of fish if we want. And it’s because people catch an release. And the fish and wildlife departments.
