Back in the day, I fished the Highbank at Columbia Dam and we used a strong nylon cord, tied to a large treble hook, so that when we caught a big catfish, we’d hook him with the treble hook, and pull them up over the ledge to land them. I never get tired of seeing big catfish caught. Thanks for the video!!

Just a tip for the long rod , use a heavier weight like 3-4oz weight you can triple your distance on a cast and you can reach out there where the bigger ones are hiding

I recommend going to West point dam and floating the channel with cool aid chicken. Been catching 20's and 30's regularly. We use a Gatorade bottle at night with glow sticks in it. Very fun experience.

You should revisit this location but next time try using shrimp or if you have a Bass Pro shop in the area, see about purchasing a few skipjack as this is straight catfish candy and won't last 2-3 minutes once in the water.

Yes im born & raised in this area I've fished all of that lake & the Chattahoochee river system from Eufaula thats Walter f George damn ( fort Gaines locals call it )all the way down to Lake Seminole for many years that's another Dam Woodruff ( good fishing behind this dam also ) that begins the Apalachicola river all the way to the Gulf of Mexico . Man for those high bank you were fishing we made a big fish basket out of wielded steel frame with wielded wire screen on the sides attached to a long rope . We drop it down into the water & let it sink about 6 inchs below surface when we get the big fish on the hook we pull him accross & into basket then pull up the basket with the hog catfish in it . It works out very well . Man you ought to put in a boat & go behind the damn there & throw out a bunch of Jugs fishing about 6 ft deep with cut bait like cut up Crappie you can fill the boat up dude . And have a lot of fun chasing down the jugs every which way lmao 🤣. Hey for that we use a 15 ft extendable fishing pole like a big bream buster we tie on a big hook made out of a wire clothes hanger with thread & super glue to hold it on the end of pole . When you get close to a jug running you just reach out & hook the jug with the pole & fish it (100lb line on pole ) talk about a pull & fight lmao 🤣 . Man i enjoyed this vedieo & thanks for highlighting my area of the world & our good fishing 🎣 👍. Come on back when yall have more time yall hear lmao 🤣 😀.

Tip 101 : To cast you big rod further let the bait and line reach about half way of your rod tilt back wards start a pendulum motion and on the forward swing you launch the bait.... we use that in SA for rock and surf fishing ....

The marshmallows reminded me of fishing with my grandpa as a kid at lost lake in WA about 45yrs ago. Caught fish on warms, marshmallows, salmon berries, huckleberries,& blackberries. Those fish were always biting

For catfish i highly recommend way bigger hooks for catfish small catfish can take in really big hooks too i recommend 8/0-10/0 circle hooks for those big ones

Small to average size channel cats have small mouths though. 3/0 4/0 hooks and size #6 treble hooks for small to average size channel cats I recommend, but for anything bigger I'd say 8/0 to 10/0 maybe 7/0 at the minimum, and size #4 or bigger for larger channel cats in treble hooks

@@CatfishingCarp_UTAH my PB was 43lbs taken on 12lb line with a 6lb bottom end, caught with a simple ½ a slice of white bread, but thats small in comparison to some carp in the UK. In the US Carp are seen as pests especially grass carp that takeover lakes, but here in England it's the fish most people want to catch, catfish & sturgeon too. Old age and disabilities don't get me our as much these days, so I'll watch you guys instead, new Sub BTW, keep the videos coming 🙂🇬🇧

In Kansas we are only allowed to use 2 poles unless you pay extra for a 3 pole permit but I usually fish for catfish at a few different spillways and it's usually like this for me when I use 3 poles that I can't keep them all bailed in the water because the fish keep biting and I never keep the fish I just fish to break my records and hopefully maybe break a state or world record and if you are going for record size fish you need to use large cut bait and for the blue cats and live bream type fish or large shad that's how you start catching them fish over 20 pounds
