Very interesting piece of West Texas rock'n'roll. Being in Lamesa in the 50's you should met the Bobby Osborn. He moved to Odessa in '58 a put a great r'n'r band there, The Classics. Charlie Hatchett also was from Lamesa..

On a small note. “Rave on” was not recorded in Clovis, NM. It was recorded at Bell Sound Studios in New York. Just saying because you played that song at the end of video……

Norman Petty may have been a good businessman, but he was not an honest man. He held the finances of Buddy Holly & The Crickets. Norman didn't pay out funds owed to the Crickets and Buddy. Holly took legal action against Petty and Holly had to go on the Winter Tour to earn money. If Buddy had not had to go on that tour..well you know the rest. Norman Petty made his business on other people's backs. Not an honest man.

BEWARE of "NORMAN PETTY STUDIOS " they have a habit of giving strikes and deleting complete channels, Nor-Va-Jak Music owns the copyrights, they're low life bastards many great music channels are long gone because of them.

Sir, no disrespect but what you are saying isn't true at all! Norman did not withhold money from Buddy, the record label did. Song royalties are paid out by the label and the artist/songwriters are paid by radio plays, record sales and publishing. Buddy had been turned down by Decca records in Nashville and was told by a Lubbock DJ to go to Petty's studio. They cut the tracks and Norman shopped the songs to record labels in New York City. If I'm not mistaken Coral records signed Buddy. Norman would have recouped his expenses and pay from the label or if Buddy used Novajak publishing company for his publishing then Norman would have been paid a percentage for the publishing rights and Coral records would be paid for the distribution of the records. Norman charged $75 a side back then when other studios such as in Nashville charged by the hour. What that means is in Nashville, if you didn't accomplish anything being recorded in a 2 hour session then you were out $200. Norman charged you $75 a finished song or side as they called it. Buddy became well known and died in a 15 month period! Most of his success is directly related to Norman Petty! I know not all of his catalog was recorded at Petty's studio but most of his major hits were. Norman not only produced and help arrange his songs but he masterfully recorded and mixed them as well. Norman also flew to New York and helped get the record deal. I don't see how you come to this conclusion that Norman Petty cheated Buddy. His wife Marina is probably the only one who thinks that and frankly, she just doesn't understand how it works. Norman doesn't control who gets paid, the record label does. The record label is required to divide the royalties to all the parties who are entitled to it. I also believe that you are incorrect about Buddy suing Norman Petty. If Petty got sued then it was most likely by Marina trying to get more money. BTW, She didn't even go to Buddy's funeral!
