Congratulations on reaching 300 episodes! 7DOS is always a treat to watch with its mix of brilliant science news and often-bizarre humour, Emilia's settled in wonderfully, and it was very nice to see all three of you together to celebrate the milestone. the rise and fall of the many different species of Pseodosuchians has got to be my favorite part due to the fact that the group as a whole has a very complex evolutionary history. from evolving into the dominant land group of Archosaurs to the crocodylomorph branch surviving both the Triassic and Cretaceous extinction events their truly an underappreciated group of reptiles and I really hope we find more fossil species in the future.

My theory is that neanderthals probably used a lot of traps. Simple holes are easy to make and can catch a whole animal or smaller ones can be used to trip animals to break their legs. All it takes is a bunch of covered holes bug enough for the target's foot to fit in and deep enough to cause them to get injured by falling. But neanderthals probably knew how to make complicated traps just like the hunter gatherers that still exist.

In most of their range in the paleozoic, Neanderthals could easily keep lots of meat edible for 6 months of the year or more. One carcass can feed a tribe of 100+ for at least a month and likely more, even without cooking.

Porpoise is the correct word when talking about animals from the order Cetacea. Also, happy fifth anniversary, guys and gals. I love watching tiny bits of science as it doesn't blind a person with too many details.
@erikm8372
@erikm8372 7 ай бұрын
But how are you actually *pronouncing* that word, ‘porpoise’? Isn’t that what they were discussing? Same with ‘tortoise’, or ‘puma’ being pronounced by British people more like ‘pyooma’, rather than the more American (and Spanish) ‘pu-mahh’… and yes, it’s the correct term for a certain _genera_ of cetaceans, some of the smallest ones, in fact. But it wouldn’t be the correct word “when talking about animals from the order Cetacea”. Then the term would simply be “cetaceans”.
@coldstone01
@coldstone01 7 ай бұрын
@@erikm8372@erikm8372 I'm sure people understand what a word is used, but I think it's from a science channel, so I assumed porpoise is part of the dolphin and whale families (not all the same families within that order either), but still, one does state Purpose as well in other contexts and who knows? That comes up to Ben's speech pattern. I personally mispronounce words all the time; for instance, PI, the mathematic word, is said as PI by some, and I say that as Pie. Also, his family does cover whales/dolphins/porpoises in detail, so it's correct when a person assumedly jumps forward with a way to say something if it's part of remembering a word from some other contexts applied in different senses. It's good gravy, from my point of view.
