I am German, born by mere chance shortly after World War 2. I was simply luckier than those born a few years earlier, or I might have fallen for nationalist ideology and perhaps committed terrible acts in the name of that misguided ideology. Watching images of masses of people hanging on the lips of liars and demagogues makes me sick to my stomach, no matter where in the world it happens. I sincerely hope that the number of sane, decent voters in the 2024 presidential elections will be greater than the number of those who would vote for a Republican candidate. Germany once failed to prevent the rise of a dictator, and that caused millions of deaths and immense suffering. America still has the opportunity to do better. Democracy is by no means perfect, but Trump and his GOP cult followers can never be the alternative.

In the end, we fought Hitler and the movement depicted in this video was repressed. Now the MAGAs are trying to renew it.
