Nearer, My God, To Thee - Hymn Tune: BETHANY.
" It is good for me to draw near to God... Psalm 73:28
This is one of the most familiar of all Christian Hymns - Historians tell us it was sung on the Titanic by the men before it finally sank to the bottom of the Ocean.
I use many different combinations of stops for this one, elevate to the key of G on the last verse. If you are using headphones you will hear the nice spatial separation along with the Bombarde Pedal I am using for the last verse..... TRY IT !
Thank you for visiting and for subscribing to my Channel for Hymn lovers like you ! God loves you.
I had the honor to play this at my Mother's Funeral - she loved it.

Lance thank you for this beautiful hymn and for playing it so beautifully for us. This evening after we were notified that my mom had passed and gone to be with the Lord due to complications from the coronavirus which she just recently caught I listened to this beautiful hymn which you so beautifully played and the Lord used it as a real Comfort to my heart. It reminded me of the fact that the Lord received my mom into his kingdom and she was now with my dad and in the Lord's presence. She too was in the Care Center prior to her passing.

You are referring to the sinking of the Titanic. This, in fact, was a historical fact that the musicians played this song even as they sank.... Very dramatic. Amen and Amen. To God by the Glory that they would even think to do that. The last thing on their ears was "Nearer, My God to Thee." How beautiful! Ruthie B. Howard of Big Belly Rebuilds.

I first heard this lovely Hymn when I was 13, Lance. It was sung as a Vesper in my Church at Macduff in North East Scotland. In 1990, it was played at a dear friend's Funeral Service in Strathspey. The haunting Tune seemed to follow her to her resting-place beside the River Spey. Many thanks, Lance. God bless . Charlie, Aberdeen, Scotland

organpipe8 Short story. I work for two cremation services in the Los Angeles area. Recently my boss gave me the name of a new first-call service to try out. I had occasion to call them. Anthony ,the owner, picked up the phone. Turns out Anthony was chief organist and musical director for the Catholic Diocese of Los Angeles for 30 years... and now he does first-calls! He also still plays at funerals.

A hymn/song of great comfort for those who choose It's Peace: Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee! E'en tho' it be a cross that raiseth me; Still all my song shall be, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. Tho' like a wanderer, The sun gone down, darkness be over me, My rest a stone, yet in my dreams I'd be, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. Then let the way appear, steps up to heaven; All that Thou sendest me, In mercy given; angels to beckon me, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. Then, with my waking thoughts, bright with Thy praise, Out of my stony griefs, Bethel I'll raise; So by my woes to be, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. Or, if on joyful wing, cleaving the sky, Sun, moon and stars forgot, upwards I fly, Still all my song shall be, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee...

That was really, really beautiful! So many times these large pipe organs play these elaborate runs and arias(not sure of the term, I play piano and violin) as to "make it their own", thus disguising it and I honestly lose the whole song. For me to connect in church, organ music like this, simple and meaningful, will e-mail me right to God. Other types of guitar and tambourine in church....metaphorically, the server goes down. Music makes the difference. Thanks...well done!
