Nearly 1 MILLION litres of slurry getting spread! Getting 4th cut growing?! Contractor comes to help

we were in dairy up to 2017 and we were getting visits from the EA. we weren't in a NVZ either but there is another set of rules i think they called it SAFFO or something and basically it was rules that farmers outside the NVZ had to comply to and it was things like your not aloud to spread slurry on flooded fields or fields next to a stream or river so basicaly it meant you had to have some storage to cover those times when it was exceptionally wet which we didn't cos we use to push our slurry into a rotor spreader and spread it everyday but we did have straw yards so it was just slurry from the feeding and collecting yard which was one spreader load a day but the EA said we needed to install a slurry store as we were next to a stream aswell or we could get out of dairy farming and do something that didn't involve having slurry and dirty water from parlour washings etc. back then there was no grants available so we decided to give up dairy farming and we now have suckler cows and they live out in the fields more of the time and when they do come in for winter there in straw yards all the time which means we get no slurry. there doesn't seem to be as many rules around spreading solid muck like there is with slurry i suppose solid muck doesn't wash off the fields as easily as slurry does

Sad to hear your not dairying any more Gerald😢 I think the EA think us farmers are set on making a mess of the environment and don’t understand that if we spread muck/slurry when the conditions weren’t right i.e too wet to get on the land we’d end up destroying our soil and would loose more than we’d gain.

EA are trying to tell us we do but everyone else says not and NFU tell us we haven’t and defra’s NVZ areas don’t include us in it so
