There isn't one reason for their extinction. It probably was a combination of reasons. Climate change affects their food sources and their sheltered locations. Secondly, when humans crossed into North America and discovered how to hunt these animals, they in fact added to the decline of mammoths and mastodons. New discoveries will increase our knowledge of their extinction.

Translation: Countless bones and molars of the woolly mammoth have been found in the Netherlands, but complete skulls are extremely rare. Over the years, about ten mammoth skulls have been recovered in our country. The most intact skull with original tusks and original lower jaw was dredged up in 1968 from a depth of twelve metres from an old arm of the Gelderse IJssel near Olburgen, above Doesburg. This relatively small skull with fairly straight tusks of about sixty centimetres belongs to a young female. Experts call it the world's best preserved mammoth skull. With a C-14 dating of 22,160 years before present, it is also the youngest dated mammoth find from our country.

At Hot Springs South Dakota ( near Custer) there is an active paleontology dig, that is enclosed, and open to the public, called the Mammoth Site, as I recall it was found during construction activity in the eighties, it's the only place in North America where Mammoth, and Mastodon bones have been found together, along with the remains of Dire Wolves, and cave bears, it's believed that it's an old sink hole, where the animals were attracted to the water in the bottom of it, went down to drink, and got mired in the mud, the predators came in to feed, only to get trapped themselves, it's an awesome sight to see if you're ever in the area.

We were more than likely underwater at some point. Also there's a mini Stonehenge in the bottom of lake Michigan off the coast of Travers City in around 80' of water.

And we know that mammoths were warm weather creatures. Obviously, Michigan had a year round warm climate at one time. Did the axis of the planet shift, causing earth's crust to slide, or perhaps vice versa?
@Pr-uj2fe

" Their coat was made of three types of hair. Closest to the thick skin, which had an underlying 4” layer of fat, the mammoth was covered with dense wavy under-fur. Long guard hairs were next, and then the thick over-hairs that formed the mammoth's skirt." Or maybe the weather has been the same and mammoths lived in a cooler climate perhaps?

The crust split open. Water from beneath it gushed out. A gap widened as the edges of the crack denuded. Underlying mantle sprang upward to fill the void creating ocean-bed ridges. The pieces of crust slid away from those ridges, under the force of gravity. The sliding halted when the pieces (continents) slammed into other new ridges, or ran out of underlying lubricating water. Mountain ranges formed when continents thus crumpled up concentrating mass in particular places, which unbalanced the Earth, causing it to roll off of its axis. When the Earth regained its equilibrium, what had been tropical or temperate latitudes had become arctic and frozen. Thus, the Mammoths, which roamed warm latitudes before the flood, are now found in the Arctic circle.
