Just so we know, the actual reason Erik Larson re-did issue #9 was because his important goal from the start was to have a continuous run of his own art and story. He was quite chuffed (my word) at the time of the crossover and didn't want anyone else telling him what to do with his books since that was the whole point of Image Comics being formed. He wanted to emulate Stan Lee and other earlier Marvel creators with huge runs on books in the old days. It's not a secret at all he was open about it at the time. When Image was founded Erik lived in the same area as me and he attended many local comic-cons. I talked with him directly about this exact thing. I was and am still a huge fan of his.

It’s issue 13 not 9. And yeah, a huge bummer that it’s not in here. He could have just included it at the end as a bonus!

You mean issue #13, not #9.

Oh yes! Thank you very much for the correction. Silly me, don't know where that came from.

I really loved the Freak Force, Vanguard, Star, and SuperPatriot miniseries. I hope they get their own volumes too at some point.

Really wish these things had issue breaks with their respective covers. Just putting them all together, not knowing when one ends and another begins makes for a bad reading experience.

I've been reading through my copy this week. The dedication to Keith Giffen choked me up a little. Great book, hope we get a volume 3 relatively soon.

Number three is out!

I wonder if the next volume will have the guest stars that appeared during the run: Spawn, Hellboy, etc. Really looking forward to more.

Just got mines a few weeks back and it's a blast. Can't wait for volume 3.

Love me some Dragon! Think they'll be able to reprint the Hellboy issues when the time comes?

This era of Savage Dragon was absolutely amazing. I tried to check the book out again a dew years ago and..... I'm still not sure what the heck i read. Half drama, half porn comic and half complete nonsense.

Need to get this, love that the bad guys have names like if they were baddies from Megaman lol

Will these keep being released once a year? I'll be nearly 60 by the time we get to where the series is currently at if so 😂
@juanj.arroyo87011 ай бұрын
My fave issues of SD are up thru #60 or so, so I guess I'll collect these 'til they reach there which at this rate will be volume 6, I suppose!

Ditto 😆 that's about where my journey ends as well. It got worse from there, seemingly, plus he loves to include politics, graphic sex, social issues... it's his book he's free to do so but I'm not reading it at that point.
@juanj.arroyo87011 ай бұрын
@@SEGAHEADDY I'm cool with the politics and social issue stuff because I'm a liberal so I agree with pretty much everything he writes about, but for me that's when he started to ramp up everything towards the Nega-Bomb and Darklord stories, and after that it just became different from the kind of book I was enjoying. I kept buying 'til like issue 110 or so out of habit, but gave it up eventually.
@SEGAHEADDY11 ай бұрын
@juanj.arroyo870 Seems like the recent stories are more "slice of life" style rather than being about an action hero. As for the sociopolitical stuff... I'm an ex-liberal (or rather, a classic liberal) so I tend to dislike what he puts in there. The Covid thing too was so ridiculous. And the graphic sex scenes seemed like he was trying to make headlines to stay relevant.

Larsen told tou they don't sell and are too expensive. Look at this now! You're making everyone money, Omar. You should get a small royalty cheque as a finder's fee from publishers.

Already have it! I really loved Old Savage Dragon but just like Spawn I\it's a series I come back to every couple of years and then just drop again... Like a Dc or Marvel book.

What does color separation means?
@fakemccoy306011 ай бұрын
It's an old printing term, specifically referring to the process of taking something full color and separating it into the four printing colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and blacK (CMYK). At the time of these Dragon issues, it refers to the process of taking the colorists' color guides (which were usually done on paper with marker) and making digital colored files on computer that will be sent to the printer, who could output CMYK film of those files. Now that colorists work directly on computer, the separations happen by default and is no longer a separate job.

Savage Dragon is big dumb mindless comics in the best of ways. I was iffy on getting it in this format because I miss the chapter divides, but I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and go for it.
