I have been looking for a way to finish strap ends without having the raw edge showing. This method makes a very neat finish showing very little of the raw edge. Check it out and let me know what you think by commenting below.

I just found you recently (and subscribed) and I have to comment on this video. This is genius. Genius! I WILL be doing this on my next strap. I wonder if this technique would work for leather too? Have to try it.

I love this. Would this make sense for leather too?

Yes, but you need to be careful because the leather might be too thick for the double fold method. I usually glue two pieces of leather wrong sides together, then topstitch and finish the edges with some edge coat.

I LOVE this idea! Maybe you can help me with figuring out this. I have made 1 1/2” vinyl straps that have 1/8” piping out of a lightweight denim on both sides but cannot figure out the nicest looking way to finish the ends. Any suggestions?

Thank you! The straps sound gorgeous. My initial thought is the stop the piping before you run it through the swivel clasp, then you can either use this method, if the vinyl is thin enough, fold it back on itself and use a rivet or use a metal strap end. But I think the key is to stop the piping before the end of the strap. Will that work?

This is a great idea! Would it help if the vinyl was warmed up a little with a hair dryer when you're sticking the tongues in the slit?

That is a great idea. That just might work! Thanks for suggesting it, I will give it a try. 😀
