@ucNguyen-ty9cx7 ай бұрын
Yeah, Ramlethal is such an interesting character... as a Valentine, she's not really used to having human's emotions(sad, happy, angry,...) and only cared about winning; but, thanks to Sin's motivations(the burger, of course), and some help from Bedman?, she slowly learns about the importance of emotions, and becomes what we know as her is today. P.S: Can we talked about the fact that her theme is a banger, too? It's not fitting for a competitive match, since it's too long; it's more fitting for character developments, and it tells a story about Ram's journey of learning emotions... plus, Naoki-san and Aisha-san really slays the vocal - just look at the ArcSys concert as an example - like, they just killing the vocals(especially Naoki-san; the man's singing as if "it's a dead tomorrow"!) 🤘🤟

I really love the association with Ramlethal and Esperanto (the language at the beginning and the language her moves' names are in). For those who don't know, Esperanto is an artifical language (meaning it was "invented" instead of developing naturally like most languages) intended to be a neutral, international 2nd language, basically replacing English with something more neutral, less Eurocentric (though that didn't really pan out since its still very heavily based on Romantic and Germanic language structures). I like to think that Ram speaks Esperanto because she sees it as some kind of ideal or most efficient language, given how robotic and pragmatic she is.

The second line sounds like "la sola estonteco" (the only futur) - estoneco is not a word in the esperanto dictionary -. Who knew that a “monster” that was made to destroy the world and humanity was just hungry. I wonder what a Snickers would’ve done… Ramlethal Valentine was made from a part of Justice’s soul aka Aria. She was made for the purpose of destroying humanity, being influenced by the Universal Will. Though, after being defeated and captured, Sin (Ky’s son) tried to show her all of the great things in life. And since Sin has a very big appetite, one of the things he showed her was a cheeseburger. After eating it, it was delicious to her and it made her realize that humanity wasn’t so bad after all. While still being devoid of emotions, this was her start to becoming, somewhat, normal. She even went out of her way to save a kid’s life that was about to be blown up. Now, we get to Strive. She had, finally, developed emotions and was now happy with her puppy she also received from Sin. Her theme explains her entire story about starting off being an emotionless monster fated to destroy humanity to someone who now fits into society with true emotions. It is a journey and definitely the most underrated because people just can’t wait for the build up this song has. Either way, this theme is great. Also, she is my girlfriend, I’m biased, fuck you. Certified bop.

After all good and evil only exist because we created those concepts to begin with. The differences between the two don't actually exist, and therefore should not be used as a means decide whether or not humanity has value. Instead the only thing that can determine value is the connections one makes, and the bonds between people (heart and heart). This is actually somewhat reminiscent of philosophies such as feminist ethics, which claims that rather than using nothing but logic to determine what is moral or just you instead need to recognize the importance of emotions and close personal bonds (for example while utilitarianism would argue that if you had to choose between saving a loved one or two strangers you must save the strangers, whereas feminist ethics instead argues that due to the connection you share you have a greater duty to help the people close to you). I'm not sure her line of thinking matches up with this sense of ethics perfectly, but I do think there does exist some connection

Not sure how you roped feminism into this but I think the song is chiefly a rejection of nihilism. It’s not that good and evil don’t exist, it’s that they give each other meaning. The necessary discrepancy being that you can’t have one without the other. Ram was sent to destroy everything, essentially to return the universe to its blank state. Black without white, or white without black. But a blank slate has no meaning, no point or purpose. When Ram was given that burger, the duality of life was truly laid bare before her. All things born eventually die. Something good, fated for bad. A cow was killed to make the burger, but that burger will give much needed sustenance to the humans who evolved to eat such things. Death is now giving life. The bonds of others are only part of the answer. We form these bonds BECAUSE life is so hard and fraught with danger. If we didn’t need to eat, if we were invincible or immortal, if we needed and wanted for nothing, we wouldn’t really need anyone else. Such a perfect being wouldn’t even need to birth more of its kind because it won’t need to be replaced or improved. It would just be. A stagnant, unchanging thing with no real purpose because it has nothing to struggle against. Even many things we consider “bad” or “evil” are ultimately just trying to survive, like the carnivore who kills its prey for sustenance we can only do what we can. We’re shaped by the world and we shape it back in kind. Yin and yang, black in white and white in black. The Universal Will saw all the suffering in the universe and decided to toss it away like a wormy apple. But Ramlethal looked the worm gave the worm its face-to-face before taking it down with everything, and realized it was just living its life. Ram saw beauty in the lives of the beasts, and couldn’t lie to herself about it.

@@SentientBratwurst The feminism I was discussing is actually feminist ethics, which is a specific branch of ethics created due to the historical exclusion of women from discussions on philosophy and ethics, at least in much of western philosophy (this isn't to say that there weren't women philosophers, some incredibly well known and important philosophers were women, but historically men have tried to exclude women from this sphere or use philosophy as a justification for the subjugation of women). Men would argue that women weren't rational enough for philosophy, and that reason and logic are the most valuable things, and thus women shouldn't get a say. Obviously, women aren't actually any less rational than men, but because of that being the justification for exclusion some people started forming systems of feminist philosophy, such as feminist ethics. Feminist ethics rejects the rational used to exclude women by instead focusing on interpersonal relationships and emotions in determining what is right or wrong. The whole branch of ethics is a way of examining moral dilemas and choices based on the importance of the people to you, and the connections you have to others. This I felt connects to Ramlethal, as she goes from being a purely logical entity, to learning about other people and forming connections with others which ultimately causes her to rebel against her mother. She didn't learn to appreciate uniqueness and the contradictory nature of humanity just because she had a burger, but because she had people there to give her a burger and form connections with. That's why her dog is so important, because she forms a connection with a specific individual, only to learn that her connection was for an individual, and therefore that bond cannot be replaced when broken, though new connections can form. That being said, I do agree with your view here. I agree that this is primarily about her rebelling against Nihilism, about embracing the contradictory nature of reality and humanity, and embracing how that contradictory nature creates value, life given meaning through death, and black and white only meaning something in contrast to each other. I still think the feminist ethics does apply here, but it does so in furthering the opposition to nihilism. me saying that good and evil don't exist wasn't entirely accurate, it is more accurate to say that they both exist within humanity and that contradiction present within everyone, and that's why no one is inherently good or evil. I hope I explained my interpretation of ethics here well, and also thank you for offering your input, I appreciate the critique!

@@InfernalEnbyI do indeed see where you’re coming from. Perhaps I was too quick to dismiss the “feminist” angle, the word raises my hackles in our current social climate so I am glad to see my comment received well. That said, I agree with the more emotional angle too! I may have also gotten a bit carried away with the burger, but you’re right about the context of it. Beyond the implications of a burger’s existence, the fact that someone was nice enough to give her one despite everything is almost certainly what finally turned her around. If she can become friends with people named Sin and Badguy, why not the other flawed humans? And if she, a logical monster of erasure, can feel that way then surely there’s something good to be found in just about anyone yeah? I must thank you as well for your thoughtful comment and reply. I feel I’ve come out of this with a deeper appreciation for Ram, this song, and maybe even my friends and family now that I think about it…

@@SentientBratwurst I want to add to the discussion by also mentioning how the idea that things being "good" or "bad" being a result of our labeling them as such gives off a particularly Taoist vibe imho. The white and black giving each other meaning, opposites defining each other, and our tendency to judge one opposite as "better" than its counterpart is what the yin/yang symbol basically represents. If I ever pick up GGST again I'm gonna main Ram lol

I hate to share passionately emotional BS like this, but hear me out, what if the "Heart and heart" part is supposed to be "Heart and hurt" (life and suffering) As in how the pulse of the heart, a sign of living-ness is only affirmed by the awareness of every single obstacle that put it closer to death, the complete opposite of life which creates a 'necessary discrepancy', thoughts?

The entire STRIVE soundtrack is at a very high level, but this song is just perfection. The twists and turns, the points of escalation and descalation, they all come at the perfect time and blend into a massive sensorial experience.
