I actually mostly agree with Tracy because I believe an immediate ilia fight is a horrible decision. Coming off of 2 brutal ko losses to rematch the most powerful and dangerous featherweight we have ever seen, after a long layoff, where volk will most likely will be knocked out cold again is a career killer. I think he should wait out the Islam fight and get a win while ilia is out of the division, this gets him back into feeling himself and warmed up for another fight with ilia. Making ilia come back down to featherweight from lightweight also disadvantages ilia due to the weight cut as ilia is massive for this division. That is volks best course of action in my opinion.

The best timeline here is where Ilia gets a few more impressive defenses against maybe Lopes, Volk again, and Evloev, Makhachev beats Tsarukyan and moves up to 170 against Shavkat, wins, and then a move up for Topuria for the LW belt. The crazy thing is that this isn’t even really that unrealistic and would produce the biggest superfight ever (at least skill for skill). Obviously still just kind of a “what-if?”, but this would be crazy to see happen.
