Dang you Jerry 😂. Your numbers improved quite a bit! I have an annealing device for a drill if you have a torch and would like to borrow it. I also have a neck turner you're welcome to borrow if you'd also like to try that.

@@jcrow530 I may take you up in that offer. I’m going to try a couple more powders and then go from there.

Are you annealing? Probably not an issue on once fired, but some brass manufacturers including ADG recommend annealing after every firing to get the best consistency from your neck tension. Also, I have several friends who have tried neck size only and they always run into issues eventually.

I don’t anneal but it’s something I may have to do to get the results I’m after. Neck sizing is weird. That’s what I do for my 308 and I get really good results. Accuracy, ES and SD all are nice???

I have also seen some great results from neck size only guys. Most of the time they shoot great for several reloads, and then they will have a bad spot where the brass just grows too much and needs a shoulder bump back. Then sometimes it will start performing again and sometimes not. I suspect some of that relates to the specific chamber dimension/tolerances vs the brass used. Your .308 Win could just be a very forgiving chamber and won’t ever cause issues. I mostly prefer to anneal every time and FL resize for about 0.002” shoulder bump so that I don’t get anything weird one firing to the neck on my brass. I also trim nearly every time for consistent neck length/tension and of course chamfer and deburr regardless. I use premium brass like Lapua and Peterson, so I also want to make that brass last as long as possible. I anneal on the original Anneal EZ annealer, but the Ugly Annealer is a better product for the same price now.

@ lots of good information here. I’ve encountered some problems with neck sizing as well and am ready to move away from it. I’ve been hesitant to get into annealing cases but I’m more and more convinced it’s worth the time and effort. Thanks Ruben.
