No the worst thing is that they removed hextech chests from mastery and champion capsules from level up. The fact you still get key fragments is very much "who cares" compared to the mammoth issues that the other 2 are. They gutted the reward system.

The key drops are intended. It incentivizes people to BUY the chests in shop just so they can get rid of their tens or hundreds of keys. A very standard mobile game tactic (give players items that are useless UNLESS you spend).

Of course it's on purpose to provide an incentive for players to play juuust a bit longer, and feel they're missing out on more rewards by only having the free pass. Every move these companies make is calculated and approved by dozens of poeple, millions of dollars are on the line.

Another problem with the leveling system is that every 25 or 50 levels the capsule would give you 10 mythic essence that you could convert in a random skin shard, now not only they removed that reward but they also removed the 10 mythic essence for a skin shard option, only allowing you to purchase the other cosmetics. Another problem with the new systems is that without hextech chests, there is not the same reward for being honorable as before, you still need to be honorable for the ranked rewards and the orbs give you some extra bonuses, but since there is no use for the keys as a free-to-play player, people might start to get a little more toxic.

Riot / Tencent actually made me stop League, I didn't think it would be possible but they did, along Marvel Rivals coming out, I had a super smooth transition and I can say I'm lucky, I don't know what I would have done if I had nothing to play. Still playing TfT and buying the BP there, but not as much as before because it's still supporting the same company... I've got no reasons to play LoL because they removed every rewards for playing. Even in ranked like wtf... Same, I quit immediately when the Fractured Wallet Gacha was released, luckily before I bought the battle pass of that event. I started playing this game over a decade ago, when the only way to get skins was to buy them up front. At first I didn't really understood why people were complaining about battle passes being nerfed, because it was still 10 times easier to get (random) skins for the same amount of money as over a decade years ago. Just from Microsoft Rewards Riot Point Vouchers I was able to get most battle passes throughout the years and get a lot of cool random skins. But yea, seeing update after update of Riot Games getting increasingly greedy and simultaneously already getting more money, got too much even for me. And don't forget the lay-offs!

Wanna know what kills interest for new players? Realizing it's going to take literal years of play to unlock a fraction of the roster... League games last on average 30 minutes and new players burn out fast, and half of playing the game is knowing what every character does. She might has well have said "We COULD streamline the character selection to guide new players to easier champs, but we're not going to because we'd rather have an excuse to not give it out for free." It doesn't even have to be free... SMITE had the option to unlock every current AND FUTURE character for a mere $20 way back in the early 2010's.

I will say I am a new player been playing for about a month and this was the only thing riot said that I found convincing covered in the video. If I can unlock champions at a steady rate I do think it's better than having them all at once because it encourages me to be conscious of who I am unlocking. Also I don't think knowing what every champion does is ever a realistic goal for new players (definitely not for me), people play enough of the same champion that I can start by learning the meta relevant ones for the region I'm playing with. That's just my experience though maybe I am in the minority of new players But the rest of the riot statements just come across as classic corporate lies to me.

(Dream dragon Yasuo, high noon senna and Lucian, galaxy kindred, dragon slayer xin, dragon manger swain, high noon Darius and Hecarim). Given I’ve been playing for 5 years. Still orbs were great in pass as at least I wasn’t forced into a vlad skin, a samira skin, etc. and grab bags, and I could get as many as I wanted as long as I grinded.

The hexctec chests going away is more than intended. 2 years ago a rioter published, and it was talked about a lot, a post were they said that riot has one of the better free-to-play skin earnings in every game and he personally wanted to tune it down. With the mastery update they already reduced that number: previously you had to earn a S- per week with a new champion per season to earn an hextech chest, with mastery you have to play 5 games to get the first one and another 10 to get the second one, still requiring the S-. It might seem an higher rate since there were also 2 and 3 seasons instead of 1, but the first chest is only given to 6 champions, after that you have to do 15 whole games to get one with a new champion. The average player does not play that much, so you either lose skins or you play a ton more and both are fine for Riot's economy. Now they just removed the whole thing and are regretting it, we'll get probably even less than last year.

Chests have become more and more rare over the years. The system they had to begin with with chests, gave me enough chests that I needed to use battlepass points just to buy keys, as having 27 chests and 0 keys was feeling weird. Then they reduced the amount you got, passively and that wasn't a problem anymore. Then they reworked it into the Milestones and when they removed the chests I had 11 keys and no chests remaining. And now the keys will not be useful unless I spend real money to get chests as if they were keys in cs:go

A really good concept would be to choose a region and you get to choose 5 champions from every region from start and gradually completeing missions in a certain region (like apply slows for Freljord, first blood for Noxus ect.) to unlock more champions from that specific region. Devs can also connect this system with the LORE so that ppl can unlock champions just by playing the game and learning something new from the lore as well.

I like there being progression towards new champions, but not being able to try them outside the free rotation is just bad. New players are also mislead on how much BE they'll earn, so it's likely they'd spend all their BE for their first few champions full price, not knowing the tap runs out fast. Having a pool of free unlocks at the start with a free tryout like the tutorial, and a linear path towards unlocking all champions should have been the minimum. The idea that you could play this game for thousands of hours and still not have all champions unlocked is just crazy

The problem is, players with xbox gamepass different from average players. Their retention rates may differ by other 128 factors, not just that one. Also, she can provide any number she want without any ability to prove it, and you still have only two options: to believe the numbers or not to. You might as well just do that without the numbers provided. Personally me agree with statement "roster as a whole is too overwhelming for novice" but the reason for that is not how/when you unlock 168 champions, but rather that exact fact the game have 168 champions.

And seriously, I will not come back until the free chests are back (or another reasonable way of earning cosmetics for free - especially champion skins), not even as a means to "pressure" Riot or anything, that's just how I feel. I will gladly come back once they fix the reward systems because I love the League universe and it looks like the game is heading in a very good direction otherwise. Until then, Riot and their universe is dead to me. Make me comfortable playing the game for free and I will be comfortable spending money on it. They should have put the gacha currency on the free battle pass, that way it gives the f2p players a way for much awful it is, to farm for the gacha and have an opportunity to get the skin, it would also make getting mythic essence more easy.

I came back to League after years of not playing...I think last time I played without quiting was in S5 and from that moment it was like playing few times and that's it...Man it's horrible, OP champions that takes zero skill to play, every single champ has some kind of spell to be invisible or to teleport it literally doesn't take any skill to play them.

I find it so crazy that in a game with literal hundreds of skins the only way to get chests now is to pay. Even before they removed mastery chest the majority of players had dozens of keys and no chests to spend them on, now how are f2p supposed to spend them?
