Tapping the Vein is not only my favorite Sodom album but may be my favorite thrash album. Love the new Thy Catafalque.

Necrotic Nick- It's a tough call for me between that one, Agent Orange and Persecution Mania for my favorite Sodom album. When that band is on they're on. Thy Catafalque has been on tear of killer releases here lately. I definitely have some catching up to do with that discography.

Dude, thanks so much for the kind words about my new album (Puritan Opiate). So glad you liked it, and also that the drums are coming through with more and more clarity. Can't wait for the year-end lists. And now to listen to some death metal gravy.
@thrallsofmetal14 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- Hey! Not a problem, man! Thank you for sending me more music. It's been awesome to hear the evolution of your music over time. The drums coming through was a big deal. I'm picky about drum production and levels and being able to hear them clearly filled out the sound well. I'm going to finish recording my year end stuff tomorrow and Friday will kick off the year end stuff with the Top 10 EPs for me. Enjoy the death metal gravy, man lol!

@@thrallsofmetal Also, glad to know I wasn't the only kid to obsessively read those horror movie synopses. I knew a ridiculous amount of things about 70s and 80s horror movies before I was even allowed to watch one of them, strictly because of that habit🤘

Necrotic Nick- From the first swampy riff I knew I was going to love them. I love Autopsy so it was an easy win for me. The new one is good but honestly I really dug the first one minus the production. It's just gross in all the right ways.

Love all your updates, dude. And to be quite frank, you make me feel a lot less guilty of my addiction (I'm nowhere near you but currently at 3,300 cd's and about 200 vinyl). Also, I may or may not have ordered roughly 300 new albums during Black Friday week 🤣

Hey, Nick, I think the Sodom album includes a remix, not a re-recording. I believe their old guitarist remixed it with some alternate takes here and there. I think I like the original mix more though. Edge of Sanity is including remixed versions with their new reissues as well. Great stuff!
@thrallsofmetal14 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- They have it labeled as a "redux" so I think it is re-recorded. It really does sound re-recorded rather than a remixed version and Sodom has been re-recording material so it seems like a real possibility. That's the impression I got at least. Either way, the straight up remaster of the original is the way to go for sure on that edition. I've been meaning to check out the remasters of Edge of Sanity reissues but I have pretty much all of their albums already and outside of maybe the first album I really don't have much of a problem with their production.

That Vehemence album is great. I always find it amusing when some people complain about melodic death metal being 'too melodic' 😂
@thrallsofmetal14 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I like it but in comparison to God Was Created I do think it's a bit weaker. I do like the fact that they overall do a heavier style of melodeath though which is refreshing.

I agree that Ratt's debut album is pretty solid, and in fact, I've found that a lot of the pop/glam metal of the early 80s is pretty good, as they weren't as focused on polish and power ballads. I know you said you don't like Motley Crue, but I think their first album has some great songs on it, Europe has some interesting stuff on their first two albums, and Def Leppard's debut is also amazing (I think you already covered that one in a Collection Update, IIRC).
@thrallsofmetal14 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- One of my favorite things about that Ratt debut is they skipped the trope of having a power ballad. All of the songs are flat out rockers and driven by killer, catchy riffs. Give me that all day over power ballads. I don't like Motely Crue much after Shout at the Devil. There was a sharp decline in quality after that one in my opinion and the same can be said for Def Leppard after Pyromania. I've never really listened to much Europe (outside of the obvious "Final Countdown") so I can't say much there. Maybe one of these days I'll sit down and jam some of their stuff. We'll see how much damage to my psyche this Motely Crue ranking does to me lol.

I might get some Ratt someday. I also think Lay It Down off their second album is good. As an 80s thrasher Ratt never offended me like Cinderella, Poison, or Britney Fox did. The older I get the more I find my taste going back to classic heavy metal/hard rock and death metal, and a lot less thrash. And when I want to listen to thrash its just thrash from 1983-1990.
@thrallsofmetal14 күн бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I've been meaning to own some Ratt (or at least some of their earlier stuff) for awhile now. All I really know is Out of the Cellar but I think I'm going to hunt down the next 2 and then maybe check out more after that. I hear there's a real drop off after the 3rd album. To me, Ratt has more musically in common with old heavy metal than the rest of the glam scene so I think we're on the same page here.
