The first half of the first game was good, but after you get the Shadowhand it REALLY started to drag for me. It's not terrible it's just...draining. Considering the story, I always suspected the plot was more of an after thought. Like they finished the game first, realized they didn't really have a story around it and just quickly threw it in. It feels like a first draft.

nah, it's pretentious. You don't get to go galavanting around the whole game, spewing garbage one-liners and half baked catchphrases, whilst murdering zombies, demons, and other fantasy monsters only to pull a "loss of innocence" speech out of fuggin *nowhere* directed at _Satan_ of all things. It's tasteless, disingenuous, and outright disrespectful at best.
@tommykarrick9130Ай бұрын
Idk if that’s quite what this game was going for, but I’ve wanted to do that in a modern fantasy setting forever. I mainly go for the idea of like “things that used to only happen once in the biggest deadliest wars in history now happen every day” (such as shell shock, entire armies being wiped out, months to years long battles, etc) In the setting it would be more like, in ancient wars you might hear a tale of a human warrior becoming so overwhelmed with grief at the loss of his brothers that he exploded with magical power and ripped his way through his orcish or elven enemies with his bare hands, turning the tide of a battle. It was always sort of mythological, you could hunt down people that witnessed it first hand but it was hard to prove that it was truly a real phenomenon. Now though, in this technologically modern large scale war, this happens daily. Sometimes multiple times on the same battlefield. It’s called going berserk and both sides have contingency protocols for it. It’s just part of war.

I didn't finish Necrovision, but I do kinda like it for the simple reason that it exists. The fact that it's this ww1 game with demons, dragons, mechs and so on is the kind of insanity we need more of. I did find it's gameplay foundation solid but like you said suffers from it's bugs and when you reach hell it gets tedious(which is where I left it all off). I only played lost company for a bit, but probably should get around back to it.

+1 here, I sing its praises to everyone I know who'd be sympathetic to them because I want more games like this. So far, the most succinct way I've been able to describe it is "WW1 by way of Painkiller and Army of Darkness." Yeah, this game is full of many, many flaws, but the basic premise and gameplay work so well that I can't help but enjoy it nonetheless and I always have a big, guilty smile on my face playing it. Mostly. Dropping all the human weapons in the latter parts of the game was a disservice to the atmosphere, I think.

The First World War is one in which a single battle would often result in the absolute obliteration of an entire country's military with only a hollow shell left behind. For the British it was the Somme. These were the men who signed up at the beginning of the war, they were called the 'New Army'. That's bc the professionals from the pre-war era were long dead by this point. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Somme resulted in the almost complete annihilation of the British Army as a fighting force. After this ONE battle, they'd NEVER be capable of taking the fight to Germany and trying to break through the lines to win the war ever again. The slaughter was so horrendous that there are COUNTLESS stories of German machine gun crews DESPERATAELY trying to wave the oncoming British soldiers off. You wouldn't see soldiers doing that again in such large numbers until the very last few days of the war after the armistice had been signed. Here they did it because they were routinely killing a thousands of men in a matter of MINUTES. The story is much the same for Verdun, after that ONE battle, France would never be capable of launching a large scale offensive ever again. Now there would be offensives, but never in the scale of The Somme or Verdun. Haig should have been shot as a war criminal, even the French generals realized that the slaughter had to stop at Verdun. Haig ended up being in charge and the ONLY reason we didn't get a smaller scale repeat of the Somme ever few months is bc the government had to withhold troops from him to stop the bastard from throwing them away like he did in this one battle.
@paulenan96366 жыл бұрын
Ded Mosh germans waved them off? Oh mate, you know you fucked up when your enemy is trying to save your soldiers life.
@chrisg52196 жыл бұрын
Paul Enan I shit you not. That's really how bad the slaughter had become. The British had one massive problem. Field Marshall Haig. Look him up. When you think of the stereotypical WW1 general who's sitting in his villa 50 miles away from the front lines in splendor, Haig is the guy who basically started that. Haig also despised Americans and did everything to put them under his command and not to let us have our own formations.
@chrisg52196 жыл бұрын
Paul Enan another interesting story involving that is the last person to be killed in the first world war. His name escapee but he was a sergeant from Maryland. Anyway the armistice had been signed but didn't take effect for some time so lots of people died for no reason. They knew the war was ending. Now this guy ended up getting himself killed about THREE MINUTES before the armistice officially went into effect. He stood up about 5 mins before the armistice started and charged a German position opposite his own trench. Keep in mind everyone knew the war was minutes away from ending so nobody wanted to kill anymore. But this sergeant was running at the German position with his weapon. Well the Germans started waving and screaming at him to stop and get down but he didn't listen. They ended up waiting until he was practically on top of them before finally reluctantly shooting him. Even his own platoon couldn't understand why he did it. His comrades didn't ever blame the Germans, for good reason. They tried their damndest to not kill him. Now ad for the Somme. That was TWO YEARS EARLIER. At the height of the war! The Germans waving off the British troops in 1916 when nobody knew when the war was going to end and the Germans were winning so much that it was like a carnival shooting gallery definitely tells you how many people were being slaughtered in a matter of minutes over the course of weeks. Even the Germans couldn't stomach the killing anymore.
@paulenan96366 жыл бұрын
Ded Mosh The cynical thing is that this battle was technically an allied victory. While the huge fuck up inflicted gigantic casualties in one day, the frontlines were a lot wider, and not everywhere did the germans have 3 hours soberness and some concrete at hand. Pretty sure the casualties at whole were somewhat the same, but the germans that died there were a lot more experienced and therefore "more valuable". So yeah, no wonder they waved those poor bastards off. Those germans had already seen 2 years of war.

"I wondered if it was a parody game like spec ops the line." No one is going to react to that, then? Okay then...

Nice review. I had fun with this game back in the day. Also in the EU Lost Company was an expansion pack not "NecroVisioN 2"

I just can't understand why it's so fascinating to hear you review these games. Is it them or you? IDK but I just finished all of them and I NEED MORE. Count me in on that patreon.

The sad thing is, I'd love a game like this, if it's done right. Let's hope witchfire fills the void.

Your game list alone is a highly entertaining read :) As a suggestion i think "Rune" would be cool to add to the list, i think it would make for a genuinely entertaining review that fits really well with your style ;)

I am in awe to see you managed to run this... at least enough to play it. When I tried to run it, it managed to find every possible reason to crash, one of them being using ironsights.
