I think Jr has become numb to the situation. He’s so used to seeing and hearing so much about that race from fans and the media that he has had plenty of years to mourn with himself and his family. He’s not used to it but I think he just got to a point where it is what it is

Growing up an Earnhardt fan it's special to hear about stories of Sr. outside of the racing world and Ned has some special one's. It would be great to hear a part II with him. I was there in 98 and I was there in 2001. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Ned really captured the emotion. Definitely my favorite take on that fateful day. Watching my hero lose it all right before my very eyes was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Haven't been back to Daytona since. I feel Ned's emotion and wow it made me relive that day and my own personal experience. I cried for WEEKS. I've lost family that never affected me like Big E. Jr you have done more for racing SINCE you retired in my opinion. Your LMSC teams, the old track history, the amazing guests on the DJD. Thank you Jr. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping all these memories alive, good, bad, and ugly. It's meant a lot to a ton of people. God bless.

The man that you've become....That carries a lot of respect right there. My Dad passed away a few months ago age 92 and a lot of folks told me the same "Your Dad was very proud of the man you become" and I can appreciate what it means. Ned was a good baseball guy as well.

I was born in Iowa, Ames. My dad grew up on a dairy farm and was a gear head. He went to Vietnam and came home whole. He was a huge Richard Petty fan. Later on Dale Earnhardt fan later. We lost him three and a half years ago.

Being a life long Braves fan plus a Dale Sr. fan, this was one of my favorite podcasts. Course I say that after most of them, but seriously, this one hit home. I lost my wife in 2005 to an aneurysm (she went in a split second) and I remember how hard she took Dales death in 2001. She really mourned for months after that Daytona race. And I'll never forget her running down the stairs terrified after your fiery Corvette crash in Sonoma. I was piddlin' in the garage that morning when she came running in tears, threw her arms around me and said, I think we just lost Jr. in a bad wreck. And that took me back to Neil Bonnett years before. I was in the garage that day too when she came running down with the sad news. It's tough losing those we love. I know all too well. And a ps from what Ned said.......Dale, we all know your dad would be so proud of you. I can literally see that huge smile he had with all you've done and your accomplishments. (and you're still just a kid.... : )

Another great one guys! I’m glad to see you having your dads friends on the show. I lost my dad a few years back but had the opportunity to work with a close friend of my dads. This was a lifetime friend who had run around with my dad since they were in school. Those are the guys that have the story’s from before I was around. I needed to here those stories about how drunk they were and how much fun they had, and that dark haired girl or whatever it my be. I saw my dad in a whole different light and it was cool! You need to do this more often because you need to here those stories to Dale!

For all Dale Sr's friends and coworkers who loved him, ....coming on this show and getting a chance to remember "that day", is cathartic and therapeutic for everyone involved. You might think that Jr might not want to relive it again and again, but I think he understands there is an amount of resolution that may/can be found, for those that cared about and miss Sr.. And to me, its so satisfying, as a fan, not only to hear the stories and the insights, but to literally witness some of these people "exhaling" for what sometimes seems like a first time, since that day. One very true thing that Ned said was Dales Sr. would be BEAMING!

There has been alot of people on the djd. And there's been a few that emotionally got me thinking about my own life personally. But this man,this man right here. May be the most genuine human being I've ever heard speak. He isn't speaking to entertain, it's like 3 people having a close talk amongst good friends and no mic,or camera. Ned is by far the best interview ever on this show. I doubt any driver ever saw that far into Dale. I think Ned had the best view of Dales world. An athlete looking through the window from outside where as the drivers and everyone else was in the room competing against Dale.

I still to this day think about 2001 when Daytona 500 comes up every year. We lost a great driver and a great man that day. It hurts even though I never met him and never even saw a race he was in in person. I never missed a race on tv though. As long as the car was running you knew you’d see some good racing no matter what position he was in. He wouldn’t give up and always raced like he was leading the race.

To say I idolized Dale Sr. back in those days would be an understatement. I moved to Kannapolis because he was from there. Worked at his company before he sold it to Action Performance. Was proud to meet him though it was brief and for him I'm sure very ho hum. For me it was a chance to meet one of my heroes and he didn't disappoint. The man had a towering presence, charisma, and down home charm. I miss him to this day. Miss seeing him do what he loved and was the very best at. Going fast!

I was never a SR fan. I will never forget where I was after that race and when the announcement was made. NASCAR has never been the same. Dale Jr, you have paved your own path. Your dad would be very very proud! You have made your own legacy.
