Hrad Niedzica, nazývaný aj Dunajec, bol centrom dunajeckého panstva. Horný hrad postavil v prvej štvrtine 14. st. Kakaš Berzeviči. Od r. 1325 bol v rukách jeho synov Jána a Rikolfa, od r. 1330 v rukách Drugetovcov, v 15 st. Schwarzovcov - Berzeviciovcov, neskôr Zápoľských (od r.1470), Laských (od r. 1528) a nakoniec od r. 1589 Horvátovcov - Paločayovcov. V rokoch 1683 - 1731 sa ocitol v zálohu Joanellicha de Toluano, neskôr sa vrátil Paločayovcom a napokon od r. 1943 ho vlastnili jeho posledný majitelia Salamonovci.
Na začiatku 16. st. bol postavený stredný hrad a v roku 1601 dolný hrad s obrannými múrmi. Už v 14.st. existovala na hrade gotická kaplnka, ktorá neskôr podľahla zničeniu. Na jej mieste na podlaží bašty dolného hradu zriadili novú kaplnku sv. Andreja.

At the beginning of the 16th century the middle castle was built and in 1601 the lower castle with defensive walls. Already in the 14th century there was a Gothic chapel in the castle, which later succumbed to destruction. In its place, on the floor of the bastion of the lower castle, a new chapel of St. Andrei.
