Nice! Thanks again. Always learn a couple of things in your videos. I am grateful for the continuous inspiration you bring. In my perception, you always really use ableton to make electronic music. I mean: as opposed to more traditional composing I always end up with. You really show how to use the computer and let it do what it's good at! And end up with real great interesting music.

When i saw "Routing" it meant something completely different for me ... was only 14 minutes in this and was already enjoying what you created with this drum rack variations and while i was typing this comment ... OOh yeah you started ROUTING , hahahaha i loved the confusing part , but you finally get it working. Nice one and interesting when you duplicated them , brings nice variations, I use Bitwig and Ableton and in Bitwig its a little easier to do this , Subscribed

In case anyone is interested in getting Solo-ing to work for these routings, it is possible, but it's a bit fiddly. You'll have to use Audio Tracks instead of Return Tracks and instead of telling the Drum Rack-internal chains to send to the Return, you are telling the Audio Track you want to route towards to receive its input from the Drum Rack chains. To do this, in the Inputs section for your Audio Track, where you would pick one of your audio interface's inputs for a mic or a guitar or synth or what have you, pick the Drum Rack you want to pull audio from. Then, in the drop-down menu right below that, you'll specify where exactly inside the Drum Rack your desired source is. This will be a long list of every possible routing point in the Drum Rack, so properly naming your chains beforehand is key. Pick the chain you want to route to the Audio Track, so something like "a Drum Buss" like in Ned's example, and either one of the Post-FX or Post-Mixer options (this will be up to preference; personally I find Post-FX a bit more versatile). Then, and this is essential to be able to solo the track and not lose audio, set the Monitoring to "In". Of course setting it to "Auto" and arming/disarming the record also works, but setting it to "In" makes it so you don't have to worry about that. Lastly, if you play back your Drum Rack sequence at this point, you'll notice that the Drum Rack still puts out the audio from the chain you just routed to the Audio Track (whereas if you were using Return Tracks like in the video, this would be a non-issue). To fix this, you could simply mute the track the Drum Rack is on. However, the better solution is to set up a muted "dummy" Return Track to send the Drum Rack chains to. This is the same workflow as Ned shows in this video, except you name the Return "Dummy Track" or something to that effect and keep it muted.

dear ned, i regret to inform you that ableton intro only allows for 2 aux tracks, however to aid those running into this issue, you could split your set into "melodic" and "percussive" elements

Wait a minute. Ned, you've been using Intro all this time?? If so, this channel is even more amazing than I thought.

Love your videos as always any chance you might make some videos on the Ableton Move? Especially creating presets in live and porting them over to the Move.
