Ever heard of the conspiracy theory from several years ago Drake and Josh reference: Crazy Steve murdered Drake and Josh, kidnapped Megan, escaped to Seattle, and pretended he was her older brother named Spencer, causing her personality to change. And changed her name to Carly.

The media literacy tip is probably the most essential Ned's tip for living in the our current world. Whether it be news, music, history, anything, it seems that an alarming number of people take things at a surface level understanding. EVERYONE has an agenda, but it is important to note that not all viewpoints are equally valid or equally rooted in truth.

Never, EVER, underestimate the extremes our government will go to in order to get what they want. The older I get, the more skeptical I've become of events that happened in years past. I'm not huge on conspiracy theories, but some things really do seem to be too good to be true, or too convenient.

With me, it wouldn't have hurt to take a closer look at the 2020 election and how things were done in the battleground states. With the Dems refusing to entertain the idea (many of them didn't accept 2016) and them defending votes being counted as a super slow rate, that gives the idea of 2020 being stolen legitimacy and they put themselves at a disadvantage.

To answer Devon's question about earthquakes, you found different things to do during an earthquake because what you're supposed to do depends on the intensity of the earthquake. As someone who has lived in California my entire life we are taught that the rule of thumb is to make sure you're somewhere where nothing can fall on you or harm you from the shaking of the earthquake. For smaller intensity earthquakes it's generally ok to stay in bed or wherever you currently are for the most part (aside from doorways and stuff like that) as things aren't likely to fall on you. For higher intensity earthquakes (and what we're taught during earthquake drills in school) there's the concept of duck, cover, and hold, where you need to duck to get low down to the ground (and protect your head), get under some kind of sturdy cover like a desk or a table, and hold onto some part of the cover so long as it's underneath the cover as to not have any part of your body where it can be crushed. All this to say, the best thing to do during an earthquake is to put yourself somewhere where things won't fall on you and crush you or harm you, wherever that may be.

@@weworks7811 not sure what you're comment is meant to mean. Are you asking what to do if you are outside in the open when an earthquake happens or are you correcting me that I missed something he said in the video or did you mean to post that comment on someone else's comment and accidentally posted it on mine or what exactly? For the future, it helps people you are commenting to if you provide context to your comments rather than just commenting like the person you're commenting to is just supposed to automatically know what it means.

As someone that studies neuroscience, the idea of being more prone to conspiracies when your basic needs are not met tracks. This includes sleep and food, but also water, community, and safety (which unfortunately means money in our world, too.) The government understands this more than i think we all know. And they keep us down to gain control not only over what we can do but what we are physically able to process correctly. The only way to combat it is strong education and making sure everyone's basic human needs are met. Funnily enough, those are the things the government has most control of. Coincidence? I think not.

Love the pod! Hey if I could make a request/suggestion: I think it would be really cool to get any of the actors who played any of the teachers as a guest. I liked the episode with Daran Norris, I think it was a cool perspective to hear from someone who was on the show as an adult. Not to be morbid but I do know that the actors who played Mr. Wright and VP Crubbs have sadly passed away rather young due to cancer and I think that's made me kinda think it would be nice to hear the stories of some of the other older actors while we still have the chance? I know that might sound weird, but honestly I think regardless some of the actors like Jim J. or Don Creech would be really cool to have as guests

You can almost hear in Devon’s voice how he’s rationalizing being more comfortable with accepting that there isn’t some shady organization with bad intentions. And for some people that’s what they need to sleep at night. I specifically remember watching an episode where he blatantly says “I dont trust people” yet in this instance he’s finding it easier to trust that some scientist who conducts experiments on people is just stupid, incompetent, or selfish. Media literacy shows us that often times a hidden idea or concept (propaganda) can be hidden behind the guise of “general information”. News anchors shouting “Don’t go to this neighborhood, there’s so much crime!” While also being complicit with the illegal activity going on in their own communities because they “Have each others back”. It’s up to us to filter the information, but to also to our due diligence to see the bigger picture. Great thought provoking episode guys. 😇

When things are labeled as "Conspiracies," it's just third party thinking and planning. Meaning its the "messengers" or the "middle man," it starts where the objective is further away from the source. The more sources you have in systems the less people have control. So therefore the goal is met without the original source having to do really anything. They are not the ones acting on their decisions. It's crappy leadership. There's a difference between leaders acting on their decisions and people who have to live in those said decisions.

I remember a couple of notable emergency drill moments. Like with Devon and co. tornadoes were more of an issue for me compared to earthquakes (I'm not too far from where Daniel is from). 20 yrs ago this spring, one of the assistant principals at my middle school (a close friend of my mom's) told me and many other 6th graders a story about how someone had their head completely torn off their body during one tornado. We were all hunkered down in the hallway during the drill when she told us that. 4 yrs later during a tornado drill, I got the answer to Devon and Daniel's question from 12:51 - 12:56. One guy in my biology class got under one of the desks and the teacher brought up that's what you do during an earthquake drill.

28:05 If you pepper spray one person in that close of proximity. Trust me you're all going down. And this is from someone that was stupid enough to ask their friends if they wanted me to pepper spray them so my pepper sprayed myself first... God what I would do to be 18 again.
