Lewis Hamilton chose not to through his championship years while Max Verstappen chose to for this season. Similar to Lightning McQueen, Jackson Storm or Mater, he is not based on one particular model, but rather draws inspiration from more than one car. The engine types of the racers are normally related to the racing cars from the discipline they're based off of. Rip's engine is a 3.5-liter DOHC V8 with 650 hp, an engine commonly seen in IndyCars from 2003 to 2011. From an older concept design of the racers, he was supposed to look like an Indy which means that while he has influence from cars like the Hulme F1 and Caparo T1, his actual basis is a late 2000's IndyCar, specifically a Dallara IR-05. This would be true because the racers are meant to represent popular racing series and IndyCar is one of many. The model year of the characters, specifically the WGP Racers, also have some connection to the car they're based on. For example Raoul is a 2006 Global Rally Car Racer, a Pixar in-house design based on the Citroen C4 WRC. The year 2006 was when the Citroen C4 WRC was introduced at some Paris Motor Show. Lewis Hamilton is a 2009 Grand Touring Sports Special GBG, an in-house design based on a special prototype model of the McLaren MP4 12C. 2009 was the year that this car was first unveiled and a special prototype model was made available from 2009 to 2010. Shu Todoroki is a 2006 Le Motor Prototype J8 which is based on Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. 2006 was when Peugeot 908 HDi FAP was first introduced. Carla Veloso is a 2009 Le Motor Prototype B12, an in-house design based on the Drayson Lola B09/60 Judd. 2009 was the year this car first came out. The B12 name she gets is from the Lola Drayson B12/69 EV, an electric racecar based on the B09/60 Judd.

@harrisonkelly-kj7kf I respect your opinion but that car came out in 2008 and wasn't really notable prototype since it was only seen at two events at the time Cars 2 was in development. If Shu was based on the car he would be a 2008 car and not a 2006 car. I looked at his model further and Shu has elements of the 908 design. I think it's the little details that people missed.Try looking up the 2008 Peugeot 908 HY on Ultimate car page, look in the image gallery. Look at the pictures where on is the top side of the car and one that shows the side of the car full on. Then look up Shu Todoroki 3d model by GT1Racer7 on Sketch fab. When you do go into the model inspector and turn on Mat cap so you're only looking at the model and it's details. If you look closely, the roof design and the generic shape of the car will look like that of the 908 racer.

I actually used to watch Cars a lot when I was a young lad. But, I really haven't gone back and watched the films in a while. Also, I am a person of unpopular opinions. An example being that I like Cars 2. Yes, I see it's flaws. But, it is a fun film in my opinion.

I have a theory on Cars over that "Mazda..." (who currently appears to be a Nissan Fairlady) ...that appears that cars could change their bodies. For example, one may appear like the common daily hatchbacks you see on the street during weekdays, but on weekends, they switch to being a pretty sporty coupe. Another example is that as a racer retires, they change their body from a race car to a normal road car. Sorry if I can't explain pretty well.

Shu Todoroki is actually more of a mix of multiple LMP cars. The overall shape is loosely based on the Peugeot 908, the wing is similar to that of the Toyota TS010, the diffuser is apparently similar to the BMW V12 LMR, and the engine is most similar to the Lola Aston Martin B09/60 which is a 6.0L NA V12 that makes about 650hp.

McQueen going up against the best racers in the entire world, but just before the big race he learns of Doc's passing. As he sits alone, he remembers something that Doc once told him (that something being said between cars 1 and 2) and gives him the motivation to get out there for the final race, it'd be glorious.

Although it's often believed that Shu Todoroki is based on the Toyota GT-One (TS020), the basis of the WGP Racers' model designs are based on cars seen around the late 2000's, specifically cars that were around at the time of Cars 2's development (2008 to 2010). The GT-One, however, was a older sports prototype racecar that only competed in endurance races from 1998 to 1999, as well as only competing in two classes: GT1 and GTP (Grand Touring Prototype). Shu was referred to as an LMP in his concept art which is a different class from GTP.

I have to pick about Franchesco’s 0-60 time being only 2.5 seconds. It actually takes a long time for F1 cars to get up to speed. To the point where a human could outrun one for the first 10 metres. That’s why all F1 races are from rolling starts instead of at a starting line.

Bernoulli shares his name with Bernoulli effect, something utilised in most modern racing vehicles but especially in F1. In it's simplist terms, the effect is that as air is accelerated pressure decreases. In cars this reduction in pressure causes the higher pressure over the top of the vehicle to push it into the road. The principle was famously brought to F1 by the legendary Colin Chapman whose designs saw Lotus dominate in the 1970s, his Lotus 7 sports car is still popular today being manufactured by Caterham, Westfield and countless other companies.

I only go based on official information such as their vehicle type names and early artwork to get somewhere close to their real cars. They said Carla was based on a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP race car, when her official vehicle type name, 2009 Le Motor Prototype B12, B12 is indicating she is based on Lola LMP cars, which actually show more resemblance to her design. In my opinion, looks like a Lola B08 and/or a Lola B10. I also know that some of the cars can take inspiration off of several vehicles, but only one car was used as their main inspiration. I can only make an inference what car was used as Max's main inspiration. Then again, when they were originally designed, they were supposed to look like a specific race car and the original artwork for Max Schnell, by design, closely resembled the car I mentioned for him. I thinks it's possible a couple of other race cars influenced his design, but by concept art and comparing Max to the real car, the I car I mentioned for the most part is Max. The design team was also considering speed, weight, power output, and function to determine the right look for each car. So some of the elements could've been a design choice. Overall, I respect your idea
