It gets even deeper when you know that it is the recreation of the actual conversation between Richard Petty and Kyle Petty, Strip and Cal Weather's voice actors, when Richard retires from NASCAR. . For those who don't know, Strip Weather is based off Richard Petty's NASCAR career. Even Strip Weather car model was based off Richard's car in the 70s. The blue Plymouth Superbird bearing number 43. He won 200 career races and won 7 Daytona 500 cup in his career. But despite him stays in the top 10 in his last days, it's no longer enough for him and have to retires. That was when Richard to Kyle why he have to do it and where "the rookies will tell you when to retire" came from.

I kinda saw it as a bit realistic, not that I am defending his behavior! He could have handled the situation better and maybe become a trainer from the beginning of the third movie. I just say "there is a logic reason behind it"

actually his top speed back in 2006 was 200 mph and it wasn't until 2017 when his top speed weakened to 198 mph because he got older. in cars 2, he outsped francesco by one inch meaning he was able to travel faster than 220 mph with his cars 2 upgrade (with his spoiler, side skirt etc.)

Reminder that Cars 2 Lightning is still the fastest car in the entire series, exceeding 220 mph, despite Jackson Storm going 214, breaking Piston Cup speed records. McQueen is held back by Piston Cup limitations, which are inspired by NASCAR rules, including the restrictor plate used to keep the cars 200 mph and lower for safety. If McQueen was allowed to use WGP rules, he’d dominate the Piston Cup and would have been the winningest of Piston Cups ever. He tied Strip Weathers “The King” with 7 total Piston Cups. McQueen is the most highly touted Stock Car to ever race, even Jackson Storm won’t reach McQueen insane level of influence and attention he brought from his success and choices for racing.

Cars 2 is either a retcon, or Cars 3 is incredibly flawed due to the precedents set in Cars 2, horrible or not. You can’t really have both by now.

In theory, mcqueen can still get faster. If they follow the logic of cars irl, he can do suspension upgrades, updated arero to match the next gen racers, engine swap to a v10 or v12 cuz the engine is the heart. So it wont alter his memory whatsoever. Only the ecu tune can in theory alter his memory. Sooo he can still keep up with em next gen racers Edit 1: NASCAR rules states that you cannot modify/upgrade your car in any way. So what you start as is what you'll finish as. So its the end of the line for McQueen

In the race-o-rama he actually gets upgrades and his exhaust can be heavily modified. He has a baja variant, a drag racing variant, a street racing variant and finally a track racing variant which is significantly faster. So this is confirmed. Also in the monster truck races you can hear him say he has 900 hp instead of 750. This is canon

Once back in Cars when Lightning pretty much was the beginning of a new generation of racers that put The King, Chick, and their contemporaries in retirement. And then a second time when he decided to be the Dinoco crew chief for Cruz, since The King was Dinoco's crew chief. Unless Tex made two teams, a Dinoco team and a Dinoco-Rusteeze team

Accidentally finding Radiator Springs was the best thing that ever happened to Lightning Mcqueen everyone there helped him to be a better car Mater became his best friend Sally became his love interest Doc Hudson became his mentor and father figure without them he wouldn’t have been a better racer than he use to be plus he found out Doc Hudson was a piston cup legend with 3 piston cups he also put Radiator Springs back on the map and his career was even more successful with 7 piston cup championships and good he declined the offer to race for Dinoco and stayed with Rust-eze which he made his sponsor even more successful.

Actually Lightning McQueen began his racing career in the Piston cup as a rookie in 2005, won his 1st piston cup in 2006, won his 4th piston cup in 2011, won 3 more piston cups in 2012-2015 & as of the rest of 2017, he is still racing against Jackson Storm as well as his friend Cruz Ramirez as shown in Cars 3 driven to win.

It's claimed to be a top speed of 205mph in the first movie, supposedly a top speed of 200mph in the 2nd movie only claimed but I think it's much faster since he beat Francesco who has a top speed of 220mph, in the third movie his top speed is supposedly 198mph but that is only on sand. On asphalt I believe he could reach a top speed at least of 210mph and he is why: I believe he could reach faster speeds because he had the ability to keep up with Storm when Storm could push minimum speed average of 207mph but Storm's average speed is 210.364mph with a top speed of 214mph. I believe McQueen's top speed is 210-212mph because of Storm was being compared to Lightning McQueen at the beginning of Cars 3 and Storm had a 1.2% higher top speed than McQueen. Which 214mph-1.2% is 211.432mph which seems a more reasonable top speed for McQueen since he would remain in at least the top 8 of the last 10 races in the 2016 season against Jackson Storm and even coming second to Storm in at least 3 races. Storm's average speed is also 210.364mph so I can calculate Lightning McQueen's is around 208mph with 210.364mph -1.2% using similar statistics for the top speed. Lightning McQueen is definitely slower than Jackson Storm but he is a smarter racer and could reach his top speed of 212mph via drafting as seen at the Florida 500 in the first race of the 2017 season. If Storm kept a racing speed of a 207mph for the first 50 laps Lighting McQueen could definitely not make progress if his top speed was 198mph let alone his average speed so it'd have to be faster than 198mph to be able to make at least top 10 as said by Smokey. Lighting McQueen also took the lead with a speedy pit-stop which was fast but only a little faster than Storm's pit-stop in the Los Angeles 500 before his crash against next-gen racers and only lost the lead and crashed due to Storm's bullying. Cruz had a top speed of 210mph and beat storm and while Lightning McQueen and Cruz are training Lightning overtook Cruz so he'd have to have a faster speed before being so confident Cruz overtook him via drafting. Lightning McQueen had an acceleration of 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds in Cars 2 and Storm only has an acceleration of 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds in Cars 3. And McQueen only has a claimed acceleration of 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds but I believe that to be false because current nascar stock cars have a 0-60mph in an average of 3.0-3.5 seconds. Therefore, if Lightning McQueen's top speed was really 198mph, 200mph, or even 205mph he would never beat storm and he would have an average speed of 208mph a top speed of 211mph-212mph. P.S. sorry about the long argument I am really into Physics about the cars universe about speeds, accelerations, distances, and time.

When Cars was made, no one even knew who Hamilton was. So, he certainly isn't based on Lewis. If anything, he's based on either Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon. Cars is not only based on F1, yes, there are aspects of it that are based on real-life F1 storylines (McQueen vs Storm in 3 for example, is based on Alonso vs Schumacher. Alonso: Storm, Schumacher: McQueen), but sometimes they also look into the history of some other racing franchises

Just a little more info on McQueen's engine. It's most likely the Chevy 5.8L R07 developed by Earnhardt Childress Racing (ECR). It can rev up to 10,000 rpm and have a power output of 850 hp when you take the restrictor plates off.
